I am not sure, but it seems to me that my recent S4 seemed more spirited when the light turned green.
My last car was a S4 too. I definitely think it's slower right off the line but,m once you go past about 10 mph(lol), these M4s can really fly!

Exactly what do you do to have this sluggish experience in an m3? I want to avoid that.

Are you just mashing the throttle or actually brake torquing? If you really want to launch you should be brake torquing a little (similar to dropping the clutch from revs in a manual). That way the wheels are "ready to spin" and your turbos are all fired up and ready to go. I doubt you need much gas. . . In my car a clutch drop (slightly slower then a clutch dump) is perfect from about 1500-1750 RPMS, more than that tends to tirespin too much.

I've read the entire thread trying to understand the concerns, and last night it finally clicked when I watched an episode of Head to Head where they compared the M4 to the 2016 Camaro SS. I believe they said they launched 80 times to film a section of the show, the Camaro being faster 68 of those times, and pointed out just how difficult the M4 is to launch properly. They did say if you got it right it was an absolute rocket.

I haven't driven an M, but am seriously considering one to replace my 435. Appreciate the discussions in this thread!

Comparing FI to NA off-the-line/immediate acceleration is apples to oranges in my opinion.
