Great follow up from PistonHeads on their M4

Says what so many of us have been saying: learn how to modulate the torque and throttle and this car is superb.

The only people complaining about power delivery are:

1) Those blindly parroting what they heard on the internets with no real world experience.

2) Have limited experience driving FI cars.

Or

3) Think the throttle is only an off/on switch.

When we were speculating early last year it was an interesting debate but at this point if people haven't figured out you have to modulate the throttle it's time for them to move on. This car isn't for you.

My last track day was in the rain(torrential, with lake crossings) at Fontana speedway, and I was pleasantly surprised by the neutrality and drivability. I had all traction off and shifting on softest setting(dct) I was able to put down the power on all straights and I was passing everything short of a gtr. Of course the Michelin pss are amazing wet tires too.

Imagine that . . . An M car that rewards driver skill and isn't an FRS that anyone can jump into and drive at ten tenths!

Who woulda thought?

I found the PSS to be very good in the wet stuff too. my M3 did quite well once I took off the NT01s!

Similar experience at VIR in the wet (but with the driving aids on). Was passing almost everything, and the car felt great with little or no TC intervention. Made me feel like a hero...

This is such a good track car, I can't believe it. I mean I loved the E90, but this is so much better...

I just did a CarPool feature for them after exchanging some emails with Dan. He's a great guy, and couldn't find anyone in the UK with M3/4 6-MT to write about.

My first DE with M3 was Francorchamps in 43F rain. I am definitely in agreement that PSS are great in the rain.

Most of the others at the event had some type of aggressive dry weather tire and were staying in the pits so I was really happy about having the track all to myself

I think one thing BMW needs to learn from Cadillac, is how they handled the sport mode throttle mapping on ATS-V and CTS-V.

Instead of doing what BMW, and many other automakers have done, giving a sharp throttle in sport mode, where a slight press of the gas pedal results in more throttle application. Cadillac did the opposite, giving their cars a longer pedal feel in sport mode.
This is especially helpful on the track coming out of corners and controlling power output.

At the track I drive in sport plus, which has the anti lag, and I found absolutely no issue at all with the torque curve. Are your speaking from experience, or based on some type of reviews?

For me it's simply a non issue, love the car.

Not sure if you have driven the cars you mention, but BMW has done a great job with the F80 of making sport and sport+ be more responsive without being too much. My Z4 M Coupe was too much. The F80 is quite good.

Not sure on what you are basing your comment on. I find the Sport+ Engine setting just perfect for track use. It is very linear and pecise at track speeds with no artificial damping. Sport+ is a bit jerky at crawling speeds, so I just turn off th M-mode when in the paddock.
