When I bought my M3, they tried to sell me on the tire protection plans saying you can 'never, under any circumstances patch a runflat tire'

Can anyone confirm or deny this? I had a small nail in my X5 tire that they patched and now I'm worried about liability in case I get a blowout.

Considering that the M3 (F80 version) does not have runflats, they were trying to scam you.

I've noticed this since June, the scraping noise. No E-brake used, so that couldn't be it. Very frustrating, I hope BMW is working on a real fix.

There's another thread about this noise here:
http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1052226
Many are not convinced it's a rock or even related to the E-brake... frustrating.

Happened on my M3 three times this morning. Annoying. Certainly seems to be from the diff.

To make matters worse where I live they use the tar + pea gravel method to extend the life of asphalt roads, leaving every city street a pea gravel factory. I am tempted to run for mayor of Amarillo with one goal, to ban this maddening practice, then get caught speeding, resign in disgrace to spend more time with my family

My wifes X5 has had nailhole fixed 2 times in last 3 years. There is no issue doing this.

M's do not have runflats.

I also have this noise coming from the right end of the car .. but very occasionally .. I hope it is really this stone theory. As long as I have the warranty I dont care too much, but I will let BMW know next time I bring the car in.

Would be cool if someone of you, who has this often could make a video?!

Thought I would report an updated.
The noise has gone away for the most part. 3500mi'ish and I heard it yesterday for the first time in 500-700 miles. I was hearing it about every other day.

I have this happen literally every day. It sounds like someone got a tall tin soda can and stepped on it. I think anyone describing this one as a screech probably has a different issue (maybe). I am past my initial 1200 service.

Sounds like the first 1 second of this video:

I had the same issue. They told me there were stones stuck up in the rotors. The removed and cleaned them and I haven't heard a thing since.

wow I had such scratching noise for the first time and scared the shit out of me .. it was the rear left and only on slow speed. but you could tell that there was something stuck in the rotor or heat shield ... I stopped ... pushed the heat shield back a bit and it was gone. good that I know this thread otherwise it would freak me out

Yup its tiny stones... I had to pull another one out last night. Rotor guards will come off in the future. If you don't see them, you have to get under the car is a bright light and pull the guard back with one hand. They may be very small and sit right on the edge of the guard rim and the rotor, but they are there.

Very Annoying.

Heard the metal grinding/tin can sound twice today. Went out into the garage and shook the rotor shield and sure enough two small pebbles fell out. What a PITA! Still love my M4 though.

don't own an M (wish I did) but wondering can these rotor shields be bent further away from the rotors so the tolerance ins't so close as to allow a pebble to stick there?? Many cars have similar shields without these problems.

I've heard this too. about 3-4 times. It happens usually when the car is cold in the first few minutes, I hear the tin scraping sound from the rear right side for 1-2 seconds and it goes away.

I'm about 800 miles in.

I'm hoping the 1200 mile diff oil change will resolve the issue.

Off topic and a little late to respond, but I chuckled when I read this post. Just shows how either misinformed or dishonest some sales rep can be. The M3 does not even come with runflats .

Had this great sound for about a week a few months back. There was also an occasional clanking sound of rocks bouncing around, almost like cans on strings tied to my bumper dragging along the ground (Did I just get married?). I took the wheels off, pulled out a pebble, and also backed up with my e brake slightly engaged. It went away after that.
