We pick Tanzanite! It won't stand out in a dark parking lot but is killer when the sun shines.

Not feeling the petrol Mica my friend. I would go with Tanzanite blue myself.
In order of preference: TB>RR>PM

Since the OP isn't soo sure and has to ask, id say don't get an individual color and spend the 5k on parts. If u already planned to buy all the goodies and have 5k to spend on the color then I'd say..
RUBY RED . unique and classy

Ruby Red looks very special. TB is a nice color but to the non-enthusiast is just blue.

I made an error on my original post. I am thinking Ruby Black, not Ruby Red.

Here are the colors. The first two are petrol mica and the last is ruby black.

I'm more attracted to petrol mica out of the three choices you are interested in

Tanzanite but I am biased. It's not common outside the forum - this forum would have you believing San Marino Blue is common too.

My boss has tanzanite blue it's great on a sunny day all polished up, but in UK it's mostly dull and wet so not that many days when it looks anything other than dark blue, so not very exciting.

His is also covered in swirls and buffer trails which the sun highlights, I haven't bothered pointing that out to him though.

That's right, but also normal for dark colors. I guess it's similar with Petrol Micra and Ruby Black (just with different color shades). You can't compare this with brighter colors like the one of your car (YMB).

Meh, if it's Ruby black then my vote goes to tanzanite. Ruby black does nothing for me, and Petrol Mica is far too understated.

But really, that Ruby red though... damn. It's a shame the M2 can't have any individual colours. My next BMW will undoubtedly be either an emerald green, violet, or that Ruby red

I also wanted to go for either Tanzanite Blue or Azurite Black, but I didn't go for it exactly because of the reasons you mentioned above.

For example the first picture that m3geezer posted, highlights exactly what you said.

And I know about the swirls... My previous car was black and you could see everything. It was a pain to maintain.

Estoril Blue was sooo much easier to deal with.
I'm hoping Sakhir Orange will be the same...

That said, if you want Ruby Black instead of Ruby Red, then yeah, TB it is
