Wireless Charging
I ordered the wireless charging option on a car I haven’t received yet, mainly because I wanted to retain Enhanced Bluetooth. However, I’ve been thinking about the wireless charging itself. For those that have it, do you use it? Opinions about it?

Only fits if you have a smaller size phone. Anything bigger than an iPhone X won’t fit. Other than that there’s not much to it. I rarely use it cause I like to use Waze and iDrive doesn’t support that.

I have an iPhone 6S (regular size, not Plus) - I should have mentioned in first post.
I listen to Waze alerts now through Bluetooth with phone in center console / out of sight. Presumably there is nothing to prevent doing the same if using wireless charging?

I also have a 6s and keep my phone in the center console on the wireless charger if needed. You will need a wireless charging case for the 6s and as previously mentioned, the largest iPhone that will fit in the charger is the iPhone X.
The wireless charger uses the very common "Qi" standard which means your phone will also be able to charge with other wireless chargers (i.e. at work, home, etc). The BMW wireless charger is a "slow" charger though. As long as you are not running 2-3 high powered apps while driving, the wireless charger should be able to keep your phone powered/charged for any length of drive. I have not had any issues with using Waze, CarPlay and a few other apps with the phone in the cradle when it comes to keeping the phone charged. The only thing I don't like about the charger is that my phone gets pretty hot while driving for an extended period of time AND using a few apps. But I think this may be due to the cheap wireless charging case I bought. I am getting a better one for my 6s to see how that goes...

The cheap one I bought of Amazon a while ago was less than $15 - essentially a generic brand which is common on Amazon. To address the heat issue, I broke down and recently bought the BMW wireless charging case as I suspect it should have the MFI certification. I have not received it yet though...

I have a 6MT, and I used the wireless option 1X since ownership, and it was due to being damn near close to 0% battery life. As mentioned, its slow, and I like my messages to be view-able front and center while I drive, so I see no bother. I have a wireless charger on my desk at work that I place my phone on during the day and I never plug it in elsewhere. In the car I use a CD Slot phone holder, which looks OEM.

I have an iPhone X and find the charging to be pretty slow; it gets really hot, too. I usually don't bother unless I'm running really low on juice. (Partly because brain-farting and leaving the phone in the car is annoying.)
