Worst change from 2015 to 2018 M3 - Reverse default camera

In my 2015 M3, I used the top down cameras 99% of the time when parking. Anytime I put the car in reverse, it remembers what my last used camera setting was and displayed that.

In my 2018 M3, anytime I shift into reverse the backup camera is shown. Even when I use the 'park assist' button as a shortcut to top down then shift into reverse it will revert back to the backup camera. I may as well not have the top down camera since it takes more effort than just parking without any camera. [end rant]

It is almost like BMW wanted to think of a way to prevent anyone from using the top down camera so they can quietly remove it in future models because nobody uses it /s

Yea it's pretty annoying but thankfully the touchscreen helps a little. The newer generation BMWs split the screen so you can see top down and rear view at the same time. Seems like an easy software hotfix that BMW could have made since the hardware is there. I'm sure the next 3 series will have it.

Try the neck around camera. Works pretty well.

I can't. My spine is fused from neck to waist so I have extremely limited mobility in my spine. I have to depend on mirrors. Point taken though

I think I recall reading that default reverse camera was made mandatory by DOT regulation. I'll check on that and get back.

On my recently sold 2018 M4 that was manufactured in May 2017, if I leave the camera in top down view, it stays that way until I manually change it back to rear view camera. On my wife's 2017 X5 though, it does exactly what you are describing and is super annoying

My wife's 2017 X5 does the same thing as well. I was worried that the 2018 M3 would also, but some how it is even worse in the M3. Maybe there is some truth to it being a DOT requirement for 2018 vehicles in the USA. Assuming you are in the Emirates?

I admit it was easier with the old iDrive but the touch screen is a fast way to change the view.

I recently did the auto park assist and that was super cool haha.

I love the overall changes with the 2018 especially the turn signal lever.

Yes I'm in the UAE and both were both from the UAE from the same dealer. One does this stupid thing and the other (the M4) doesn't

I see the park assist but have no idea what the hell that does. I tried pressing it but it didn't do anything. I have a 6MT 18 M3

A 6MT parallel park? I'm guessing with me shifting gears. I would but I'll never use it so I'm not gonna waste time reading something I'll never use.

Parallel parking, when done right, or when done automatically, is only done in reverse. No need to shift gears.

Yeah I just realized I said the wrong thing. I was thinking clutch pedal modulation maybe.
