Front License Plate
For my fellow South Jersey drivers (central and north would also apply):
1) Did you mount your front license plate? I used the tow hook, but a) hate how it looks and b) fear that if I need to get towed at some point, will need to remove it quickly on the side of the highway (ridiculous I know, but every single one of my past simmers have been towed). 2) How frequently do you get pulled over for not having it mounted? Thanks!

I live in NY and I do not run it.
But I have been pulled over in my F10 before... seems like cops are ok with M cars?

Got pulled over coming back from philly this weekend and the cop asked why i don't have a front plate. i told him i can't bring myself to drill holes in the bumper of an $80k car. He was cool and goes i get that but they have tow hook brackets. When he asked about my tints i said the car came that way from dealer. He talked about the car for 5 minutes and let me go with verbal warnings. Think he wanted to check out the car cause this was on some back road in the middle of nowhere in some small town that probably gets 0 traffic.
That was the first time getting stopped for no front plate. Had car since march and prior M3 for 3 years with no front plate and no issues but i live further north. |

Spend $250 and get a automatic flip out plate. Mounts on the lower mesh. I only flip mines out when parking in the streets. Meter maids give no front plate tickets too

I was specifically pulled over and ticketed for missing front license plate. It was barely a month into ownership. I got a tow-hooker and everything has been cool since then.

I too was ticketed about a month after owning my car at the Midtown Tunnel by the state cops. I use a Sto N Sho now. One screw in the underside of the front bumper, and I can put it on or pull it off in a second. I just leave it on though for convenience.

Jersey cops are fairly inconsistent from what I hear. Some care, some don't.. might be a matter of mood and what not.
Tow hook plates are ugh because they're not centered, and so I think the sto n sho works best on the F8X. Here's a brand that I can personally vouch for since I use their product on my GT3 - https://www.carbonio.com/BMW_M2_M3_M...m-bmw-m2-6.htm Its a bit of a pain to put it on to begin with because the instructions aren't the clearest, but it does the job well. It's also withstood high speeds with no issues too. |

Here's the Sto N Sho I am running with. One screw underside but I like how you can take it on and off easily. The owner was great too, he made and sent me a custom plate for free after I found out my shop drilled the hole off centered. http://bigmikesperformanceparts.com/ |

Wow, I might actually pick the Carbonio up. I have this one right now: http://www.usmillworks.com/bmw_front..._tow_hook.html

I've gotten stopped enough times that I finally put a plate on. I used toggle bolts and a universal bracket that I painted black per this thread:
www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=374893 I didn't like the look of the tow hook plates. The final result is basically a DIY version carbonio one Ahanu posted. I prob would have considered the prefab one if it had come up in my searches last year. |

i get more tickets from the meter maids than cops pulling me over - although both have happened to me.
I got the retractable plate - only have it up when i park or drive while smoking. |

I used to have it, but removed it.
I've never seen any M3 with front license plate around my area. Interesting because recently like within a yr or two, I've seen more 4runner (new ones), recent audi models, Range Rovers without front plates in northern NJ/NYC than M3s or other cars
