While yes, this would be best, I am actually looking under the car to see if there is anything I can do to protect my car in the meantime before BMW possibly comes up with a solution. There might be a way to easily attach some sort of protective shield without significantly interfering with the air flow.

I am SO sorry to hear of this, unreal. I would hope BMW is going to provide a skid plate of some kind to protect the oil cooler. That thing seems to dump the oil faster than it can warn of the engine being OUT of oil. I certainly have learned one thing from all of this, If I turn off my engine due to an engine light, or malfunction, I'm turning it off in NEUTRAL. Rediculous its so difficult to get it in N once its off and cant be restarted.

Unless you ran over a horse, that seems like someone trying to scare you. How about 25k.. Since we're guessing.

Wouldn't the car automatically go into park when you shut off the engine? My E92 M3 DCT did just that.

Just in general as I learned quickly. Corporate BMW doesn't give a crap about the customer. It's all about the money.

Yes it would, IF you hit the shutoff button while its in Drive. If you go to neutral and shut off, it will shut off in neutrel. But you cant lock doors, etc.

In the meantime, I guess if you have the slightest thought that you might have hit something underneath your car pull over immediately and look for leakage.

I know that this not always possible unfortunately.

$40k is ridonkulous, that's half the price of my car, which if you add the hefty price of the tranny(On an Evo it's $15k) probably $20k for a Beemer, and the chassis another $10k....then all the aluminium body panels at a conservative $7k, the leather and seats, we'll call that $4k....well that's more than the car right there.
That means BMW is giving us a lot of shite for Free 99!!!! Wow, cool right.

or not.....
$40k is crack prices, as Dave Chappelle would say.
Can it really be that much? or are they trying to rip her off in labor fees.

....and yeah would like to see pics if available, those are always cool.

Not even close. Try about half that. Even with labor, I dont think thats quite accurate.

Sounds like BMW is blowing smoke.

The engine alone is 25k. Takes a nice amount of time and labor too. All depends on what the shop/dealer will charge

okay so to be clear with the car being stuck in gear this is only a DCT issue. if the battery is still fine you should be able to put it in accessory and place the transmission into neutral. I think??? otherwise the lever is used to disengage the clutch for a dead car.

you turn off your dct car in neutral it will still go into gear. park mode. its so it doesn't roll anywhere.

Actually Beemer is more correct for motorcycles as it was the German derivation but americanized spelling is beamer. So both correct for bikes. Bimmer is cars as mentioned. But who really cares

Oh my, fair enough...I think autocorrect got me and didn't even register when it changed.
Thanks for the heads up though, it is my first bimmer so go easy(damn autocorrect almost made it bummer).
