Front Right Wheel Clunk, Video Captured!

I appolgize if this belongs in another thread, wasn't sure if I should have put it under the maintence thread.

Any ways, I have noticed that when I enter my driveway and turn left while going over the curb, (slight left-hard left) I get a distinct "clunk" out of my right wheel.

This is only when I do it on the left turn, if I turn right and try to replicate it, nothing, feels solid. Is this normal? Is something loose/blown out? Should I go to the dealer? Car is 15 MY and 34k miles.

In the video I did two passes, first one was "NO clunk", second pass was "clunk", you can hear it very distinctely, I can also feel it... I think lol.

Any info, experience, would be much appreciated.

Sounds like the spring. That corner is losing all the load, causing the spring to move a bit more freely on that passenger side front, so when the load is then put back on it (when that passenger side wheel goes up the curb), the spring might wiggle a bit and cause the noise. That's what it sounds like in the clip, but it may be worth taking a look in there just to make sure nothing else is going on.

Could be wrong because it does sound somewhat dense that bang. I hear similar things on my X5 as well as my E46 when it had KW's.

Thats what I was thinking as well, the only red flag is that I cant replicate it when I turn right. Which leads me to believe, something is not like the other between the two sides.

This happened to my car. Took it in and they had to grease the wheel hub. I'll post the paper work when i get home tonight.

Thanks,

Under warranty? Take it to the dealer.

Yes I am under the original warranty until 7/1/18. Then my CPO warranty kicks in. I know the CPO warranty has a clause that essentially says, Ball joints, bushings, tie rods, coil springs, etc... are not covered.

Does sound like spring with the echo in the sound. In saying that I had a clunking noise in mine in the same place recently and it turned out to be lower rear control arm ball joint worn. BMW replaced my control arm without question and I was a few months out of warranty.

Yeah if it's still under warranty it's probably just worth it to give it to the dealer and have them double check to make sure things aren't loosening up in there.

That sounds more like a "clink" than a "thunk" and it resonates (echos) at relatively high frequency. My WAG is the carrier stiffening plate

So I am going to add another observation to my analysis here. I also noticed now that when I drive away from a parking spot I hear a tic...... tic...... tic...... tic...... coming from the front right wheel, same wheel. When I speed up it goes faster and turns into a tic.. tic.. tic.. tic.. tic..

I have an appointment scheduled for noon on Monday at the dealership.

Got an update from the dealer today.

Strut Bearing and strut mounts need to be replaced.

SA said the left side is binding while the right side is snagging. They are replacing both side for me tomorrow.

I have a 2016 f80 M3 that works as a daily driver but is driven cautiously commuting mostly highway miles. Vehicle has 20,000 miles with no potholes being struck. Was hearing the same clunking, rattle in my passenger side wheel when hitting bumps at slow speeds. It got so bad the brake pedal had a delay before applying itself. Took it into the dealer Monday and they said the passenger side control arm ball joint was bad and they would be replacing it under warranty. Will update once I get the vehicle back.

I had my car at a local Indy shop last month for an alignment and they found a bad front control arm ball joint. Car is a 2015 with 26k miles. Seems like this is popping up more and more recently.
