Unhappy 2016 BMW M4 Exhaust White Smoke - Help required

Hello Bimmer heads,

I have uploaded a YouTube short of the white-smoke coming from my exhaust, this was not a cold start, the engine was warm and driven for around 15-20 minutes when video was taken.

My friends are telling me it could be the turbo, i would appreciate if others have any other insights on this.

The car has 72k Miles on the clock, it seems to drive fine no issues or noises just White smoke.

More likely it's either a head gasket problem or possibly the TMIC leaking coolant into the intake tract. Any oil leak would produce blue-ish smoke. Get a compression test and check your TMIC for leaks. Also, your S55 engine has two turbos.

Now you mentioned that, i have been leaking coolant.
My friends who recently serviced my car, said i do have a slight coolant leak but nothing serious but he wasn't sure where the leak was coming from without removing everything to locate it.

I'm not sure what TMIC is, but i will ring a few garages and ask if they are able to do compression tests and check for TMIC.

Thankyou for you input

Not to be negative but IMO you need a new garage. There is no acceptable coolant leak, they always come back to bit you. I hope there was a cooling system pressure test? I would find a good garage and in this case I would prefer a leak down test over a compression test.

Yes, you apparently are getting oil mixed with coolant, and you should definitely get that small leak fixed. "TMIC" is your Top-Mounted InterCooler, which is an air-to-water heat exchanger. They have been known to develop a leak where the coolant gets into the intake tract and then into each cylinder's combustion chamber. Check the small black coolant reservoir at the back of the engine in the center of the firewall, and if it's low on coolant, there's a leak - although it could be in one of the hoses between the TMIC and the reservoir itself. In any event, have a competent shop check things over and determine whether or not it's a blown head gasket or the aforementioned TMIC leak.

I just posted a thread with pictures of my TMIC leak if you need a reference. My car wasn’t blowing any white smoke or leaking coolant on the ground.

Yes, I think we would all benefit from learning the results of your diagnosis.
