So in the m4 you can get the heads up display as a stand alone option, but in the M3 you need the exec pack??

According to the respective guides, yes. Same thing for Heated Steering Wheel.

That is, assuming they aren't about to change the M4 to match the M3 with an update to its guide for July production onward. With BMW NA you never know. Not saying that's likely though.

It should be obvious by the disparity in packaging and options between the F80 and F82 that BMW NA regards the M3 and M4 as two very different cars with very different target audiences and potential buyers. As a platform, we as M fans see the two as one and the same, just 2 vs. 4 door variants.

Actually, up until this year they had always been grouped together in the same guide. In fact, it may very well be that the main reason the guides have been separated is because of the differing availability dates in the US. The differences in the packages and options are actually pretty minor in the grand scheme of things and could have easily been called out in one combined guide.

I agree they are fairly minor, but there are people here screaming bloody murder. I think this is a hint at what's to come with the next gen M3/M4. If you figure they've had several years now of a split 3/4 series model lineup... some bean counter is putting out recommendations on how to max sales of each.

I hope you are correct and they do finally split them into distinct models, because that would mean the next M3 arrives in early 2020 instead of early 2021. I agree that the model naming split opens the door for this opportunity and have commented about that before myself. However, I would not read too much into this isolated event. The separated pricing guides are a BMW NA decision only and not necessarily the result of some larger strategic initiative.

Yes, meant to say the full adaptive LEDs.

top and side view cameras

I don't see anything about the top and side view camera system, previously a $750 option that I neglected to take by mistake.

Nah - just keep buying her drinks and make sure you have a huge wad of cash.

But seriously, what do you mean? It's no different than in past years. Standard equipment changes periodically, sure, but you can still order a zero-option car just as before.

but remember on the E9X, you could order the car without navigation and/or EDC.

True stripper right there.

People here read these releases like tea leaves. I think generally we give BMW way too much credit when we hyper-analyze these minor incongruencies in pricing, guide splitting, etc.

So it's effectively impossible to get a stripped build with the Adaptive LEDs now.

I went CSAT + Lighting Package + Black 19s on my 2016.

Now if I go the same route it'll cost a couple grand more + getting bent by the $1000 extended leather in executive package.

I am still for the life of me trying to figure out why Priority 1 Individual Interior costs $100 less than something like regular Merino Black Full leather.

Something's got to be missing from the Individual Interior that you can order. Is it the doors and contrast stitching?

I'm assuming at this point in order to get them you have to ask BMW to put them in and cost you more?

Priority 1 means "customer sold", nothing related to Individual leather.

Individual Leather has not included contrast stitching in the door handles or kneepad since the F8x introduction. No rear side shades standard with Individual Full Leather either. Everything else is leather covered and contrast stitched the same as in the Merino (Extended or Full) Leather.

What has changed is the pricing -this is the first BMW model in which Individual Leather is cheaper (from $350 in MY2016 to now just $100 less) than the regular leather option.

Sure, but Navigation has been standard from the beginning of F80 production, so nothing changes there for MY2018. You can also still opt for the standard suspension just as you could in past years.

Basically, the only significant differences between a no-option 2017 M3 and a no-option 2018 M3 is the latter will have a backup camera, and you get LED headlights instead of Xenon. iDrive is updated too, but that hardly makes the car less of a "stripper".

Doesn't the PDF say if you get ZCP you cannot order ZSU (standard suspension)?
