Because they will.

But only as an option.

Goes for you too.... .

You probably should start by editing the thread title so it doesn't say NO OLED.

These headlights are a downgrade from the current ones IMO. Not a fan of the line going towards the center at all.

Yes it will be a simple retrofit minus the cost associated with it. BMW should have put LEDs from the start.

I'm pretty sure Mo was just kidding. "Civic M4" is a common humerous name used to reference Non-ZCP M4 cars.

I agree. The eyebrow also is part of the turn signal which I don't like. I prefer the signal to be the corner only.

BMW drivers have been complaining about this ever since the E46. It'll likely never happen that way. BMW leaves things out on purpose to make the refresh more appealing and/or to differentiate it from a non-LCI car. If LED lights are that important to some of you, wait for the LCI instead of buying pre-LCI cars. It's pretty simple.

Why would future tail lights have any impact on current M4 owners?
Because many current M4 owners (just like f80 owners when Lci came out) wanted to have the option of upgrading their taillights & were hoping for OLED? :

Smile WOW!!!!!!! The New M4 LED's LOOK FANTASTIC!!

I tell you once I saw this thread and saw the new LED's for the M4, I was pretty sure I had just been "click baited".

I love the way these lights look on the SSII F80 in my garage.....I am glad I waited until the F80 LCI came out with them.

Ever.

Or is it never?

Either/or.

Or put in a damn LED bulb. Or buy a GTS, sell someone the tail lights, and save yourself $4k.

So now the biggest question is when will the LCI M4 be available. Looking at previous history I would guess March. That is the month my E46 M was built (2003) and my E92 (2010) both of which where LCI. Here's hoping for a 3peat. I'm ready to order for another March built LCI!

Do we ever see lips, spoilers, diffusers, wheels, etc when driving?

No.

Some people concern themselves with how their car looks. Heck, if these cars weren't as attractive a lot less people would want them. Would I worry about tail lights? No. but I think people have the right to complain about things that make the car look better "subjectively" in their eyes.

I would never see the LED headlights when I'm driving. But to me they are infinitely more aggressive in styling than the xenons. So I would spec those for sure without ever "seeing them" while driving.

They do, but we also know that BMW introduces LED's for the 3, and now 4, Series cars during the LCI. It was that way with the E46, E9X and now the F8X. Knowing that fact, people should plan their purchases around the release of the LCI instead of complaining about something that has been cultural within BMW for 17 or so years, and will likely never change. We also know that a ZCP will be released during the chassis cycle that will also have further differentiating changes and improvements. If somebody wants the package with all of the updates included, buy the car toward the end of the chassis life cycle.

Completely agree. My point was to refute the idea that because you don't see the lights, you should not care.

In other words I think people have a green light to complain about how their car looks even though it's about an area they never see.

I'm not saying they have a green light to complain about what BMW does every LCI.

In my defense, I was driving home after a long shift when I chimed in (I do not recommend this lol)...so that's why I didn't notice your post.

It also didn't register at the time that we've already seen OLED lights on camouflaged lci F82s being tested. Needless to say, I'm feeling the shame.

This thread echos almost every "LCI release" thread out there.

Pre-LCI owners justifying their own tail lights and downplaying the new ones.

Oh it's not much different; I like my [pre-LCI] better; who cares, you can't see them while driving.

We've seen this trend enough here on Bimmerpost to know that eventually these comments downplaying LCI upgrades will become irrelevant.
While looks are subjective, it is absolutely clear that BMW has the capability to release nicer tail lights at launch, but purposely hold-off until the mid-cycle facelift LCI as a marketing strategy; pre-LCI lights are intentionally compromised.

At the end of the day, there's a reason people will/have swap(ped) out pre-LCI lights for LCI lights, not the other way around.
