Must be a pretty serious problem if they are going to change diffs on 200+ cars.
Even if it cost BMW £1K per car to fix it, thats over £200K. May be more than that. I'd dread to think how much a diff change would be at dealer prices if you'd have to pay out of your own pocket.

They'd probably spend more than that on admin and communication. And I'm sure the OEM supplier would fit the bill. It's still peanuts.

So I phoned up BMW UK, who confirmed my car is affected.
Dealer got back to me, stated all the comments that are mentioned before in relation to rear differential producing noises, no fix, delivery stop etc. there was no updated news as to when the fix is going to come in. Dealer said they had a stop on the 1 series last year, which was for 5 weeks!! Not looking promising. |

My car falls into the dates AND my rear diff disconnected from the rear axle in my work parking lot 3 months ago. Go figure.

Dealer called me today, said that my car was affected, and explained that it is related to the diff 'grind noise issue', as the diffs were manufactured to the wrong degree of strength.
He did however, to my delight, say it will be all sorted for 66plate delivery, which is not too bad of a delay for me.(Though some have speculated it will take months to fix?)

If there is one thing I hate it's news given that gets worse. I would much prefer either being told they don't know or given worst case and it gets better!
Fingers cross for all those affected!! Last edited by ajfoggy; 07-21-2016 at 04:05 PM.. |

I wouldn't do that, take the car in as you would normally as near to 1200 as you can, if the car is affected it's better there than driving it around faulty.

Foggy, is that Tony? I'm waiting for an email from him to buy the service pack but not heard anything so assumed he is on holiday. Do you know when he is back?
He said you have to buy the service pack from the supplying dealer, is this correct does anyone know?

Reading the main thread this morning it looks like 1200+ cars are now affected and BMW don't have the parts to fix all the cars
