Maybe, but we're still a ways off from the 3300 lbs. claim.

There are still some things that a US car has standard that could be removed such as the power seats, heated seats, and some (likely very light weight) navigation electronics and wiring. We could also add CCB to shave some weight. Not sure what more could be done beyond that. Doesn't seem like it would account for 100 lbs. but who knows.

So a stripped out M4 should be right around 3400. Not bad!

I don't really see the point of stripper Ms, though, all the tech and toys are half of the fun!

Kodish Scrap, right in west chester.

They literally have a drive-on scale right off the road. Come with $4 in ones (they can't break change at the scale), weigh-in, good to go

I've come to accept that BMW long ago misled on that number.

I can believe 3,300 is achievable on an m4, but only either bone dry or with a very specific specification like you mentioned. Or both bone dry and ultra-low spec. Also, they said it was "comparably equipped" - so that takes CCBs out.

I can get the toys and tech on a ~$35k Acura. BMW is really behind the 8 ball on those things.

I don't see the purpose of buying an M for the toys and tech

I have an M3 with CF roof on order (ED on Sep 22!) and the salesman told me it would have the mounts for the custom foot packs for rack systems just like the sunroof version (little flip panels with a bolt mount underneath). So this should let you mount a roof rack. My 540i had these and they were great. Hopefully the salesman didn't lead me astray...

Can anybody with a CF roof confirm?

Please see this thread:

CliffsNotes: you *might* be able to have them retrofitted, but unless something changes real soon, your car will not have roof mounting bolts upon delivery.

That's a fair point, BMW has always been behind the ball when it comes to interior tech, but for what it's worth, I prefer iDrive over most other manufacturers' solutions, and the new M at least seems more "on the cutting edge" with the HUD and whatnot than the previous one (which felt outdated the year it came out).

I guess I see the M3/4 as a compromise car between a sports car and a comfortable cruiser with gadgets to keep me entertained. I feel if you strip out that aspect, you still end up with a compromise car except with no payoff on the compromise. I can see the logic for something like a 1M or even the upcoming M2, but on large cars like the 3/4/5/6? Why not get something more dedicated? Unless you're a 1-car type of guy, in which case I totally understand (I bought the E92 because I needed one car for everything).

I do really appreciate you making this thread, it confirms for me that most of the options beyond the DCT don't really add that much weight, which is great since I would go manual this time around but would want to tick most of the other boxes. Not sure when or if I actually will make the jump. I bought the E92 because I wanted one car to do everything, and am still having too much fun with it to trade it in just yet. Plus I now have a Macan on order, so with the "comfortable cruiser with gadgets" requirement being satisfied (love that air suspension, woo!), I'm not even sure if I need another all-around car from M. I am waiting to see what the M2 delivers, and for now just hope all those sidelong glances I kept throwing at the Caymans during the test drive/paperwork visits to the Porsche dealership won't turn into full-fledged lust.

Thanks. I was there 10 minutes after reading this but they were closed maybe next week. Did you have to drive through that off-road dirt track

The cars w/ CF roofs have the little flip tabs but there's nothing underneath. Check out the latest Nick Murray video... skip to 25:30:

Hopefully I'm wrong but my guess is there won't be a retrofit for this.

Scrap yards are notoriously the biggest criminals in business history. I would take it somewhere else to verify the accuracy of the scale.

3450 is about what a 135i with DCT is supposed to weigh. Sunroof is standard on it. 3450 isn't bad for a car with over 400 hp.

This is is what is important IMO. 120lbs is a pretty decent reduction.

I seem to remember a member from Sweden saying that they could order the F8x with manual seats. If correct, that takes out a big chunk of weight.
Yes, the U.S. does not allow for manual seats unless perhaps ordered through individual. So I have power seats.
Individual has its limitations in the United States. For example, you cannot order a car with leather trim in place of the plastic trim because BMW crash tested the car with the plastic..

I believe if one asked for non-power seats, they would probably deny the request for the same reason.. legal restrictions.

Thanks (and andy92782), that's a little disappointing since I was hoping to get a bike on top occasionally...but not a deal killer. I just called and my car was finished a few days ago so apparently it is too late anyway. If it is different upon delivery, I'll make sure to post.

Still a far cry from 3,300 lbs...removing mobility kit, floor mats and fuel ain't gonna get you there. Maybe drain the coolant, power steering fluid, brake fluid, washer fluid...

In all seriousness, good info, thx

These heavy truck scales can be as high as 150lb off, they're designed for 40 ton trucks.

Funny... I said this about an E90 that was used in another thread and told I was wrong.

hahaha I think I remember that. It would be interesting to see him go pay the performance shop up the road and compare the results.

One quick way to see how accurate the scale is in the 3xxx weight range to changes in load would be to weigh with and without driver and then of course use a personal scale to measure driver weight. I'm guessing the scale has a much greater accuracy than +/-150 lbs.
