Guys I am seeing contradicting info...

Are the PS4S much softer like in absorbing much better road imperfections VS PSS or very similar?

275-35-20 and 285-35-20 on a new M5 delivered with PS4S star spec today
Sure, because BMW developed the M5 with the PS4S.

This is nothing new. The E46 M3 was developed with the original PS, the E9X M3 with the PS2 and the F8X with the PSS. Cars are developed with the most recent tire at the time of vehicle development. The G8X will very likely come with PS4S. But don't expect a star spec PS4S specific for the F8X platform.

@OnPole - can you do me a favor and check to see if you're rubbing in the front with your 275/30 ps4s tires? I rub on turn lock and a bit before that - seems everyone running these on M4 F82 are ok, but was hoping to check with another M3 F80 user to see if mine is messed up somehow.

If i turn my wheel to lockout all the way to the right, front driver side is rubbing.

Thanks

I seriously doubt we will ever have star spec PS4S for the F8X platform. Just not worth the investment for BMW.
CanAut - are you sure about the 295s in the rear? I was talking to my normal contact at the Tire Rack and he said they hadn’t fitted a 20” ZCP with a tire that tall or wide. I would like the added benefit of a greater width, but I am a little gun shy now.

I don't see an issue. I'm on my second set of 295 PSS rears on the 19" 437M and really like them. Much better than the stock 275 for my use. A 295/35R19 is very similar in size to a 295/30R20.

I fit 305 track tires with massive contact patches in the rear without rubbing

But with a 19” wheel, right? I am guessing the smaller wheel diameter gave you a little more leeway, but I am far from an expert in this area.

It's actually on a 18" wheels. However, the wheel diameter has no impact on the contact patch width and the taller profile of the tires offsets the smaller wheel diameter.

As a tidbit, wheel width has little effect on the tires contact patch width. However, wheel width will have an impact on the installed tire's total section width, which could result in tire sidewall rub under extreme compression. My 305 track tires are mounted on 11" wide wheels without any rubbing issues.

If you are using spacers or wheels with different offsets and/or width, you could experience rubbing. My point on the 295 tires is with stock wheels.

No spacers or mods to the stock ZCP suspension - just stock 20" wheels that need new rear rubber.

You should be good to go without any worries using 295/30R20 PS4S .

I have these installed and they look and feel great. Also run 275 up front with no issues.

You won't be disappointed. The rear looks so much more aggressive on stock setup. Little to know break in traction even in 40 ish degree weather.
I'll be refreshing these once a year and I can't wait until I burn through them. A must if you're planning to tune.

thought I read someone posting that the grip was great on a stage1 tune? Can anyone confirm how "great" these do from a dig with that extra power on regular streets? I'm considering these for a 265 and 285 or 295 setup on stock 19's, or going all out with the bridgestone re17r's if the ps4s don't hook on 1st or 2nd

My new wheels came yesterday (20x11 +40, 20x9.5 +22) and I'm getting my 295/265:30 PS4S today.

Original preference was Continental ECS because of their slightly favorable price, lower weight (esp. rear) and how impressed I was with them at the M School, but they don't come in 265/30 size.

A good review of PS4S here: https://www.roadandtrack.com/new-car...sport-4s-test/

Have any of you driven on them with temps in the 30s and dry roads? How well did they perform while driving at sane highway and street speeds?

I've driven in these temps (same size rears as you ordered), and they still have a hard time breaking away, even in wet road conditions.

Thanks. Good to know. Here in Denver, we have highs in the 60-70s and lows in the upper 20s and 30s this time of the year, on dry roads, so overall performance was my concern and all the reviews I've seen had only tested it down into the 40s. I don't plan to drive on them in the 30s but sometimes it's unavoidable.

Okay, I've read through this entire thread, and this is what I've come up with.

My setup: H&R Sports, OEM 19" wheels, 12mm spacers all around

I'm planning on:

Pilot Sport 4S
265/35 Front
295/30 Rear
Removing spacers

Thoughts? Sounds like I shouldn't worry about rubbing, which was my primary concern. The real thing I'm after is traction with a tune.
