Tracking with NT05 as opposed to RS3/RS4 or RE11/RE71

Anyone track an F80 or other bimmer with the NT05. I have ran RS3 in the past on a M235i and had great experiences. I was thinking RS4 on the F80 but am limited to 265/35/18 and 285/35 in the RS4. I can either run the NT05 265/35 and 285/35 or I can run a 275/35/18 and 295/35. The NT05 is cheaper but is it comparable to the old RS3 in terms of wear and grip? It is still an extreme pefermonace tire, but I assume it less desirable than an RE71 or RS4.

I am hesitant to run NT01 275 and 305 combo that everyone runs becuse I am on stock suspension and with my track experience I do not know if I am comfortable moving up to an R comp tire yet.

My car would be stock except for brake fluid, pads, and whatever tires I choose. Thanks guys!

I haven’t run the NT05 myself, but I have gotten very good feedback from track buddies that have. From what I gather, they use a very similar carcass than the NT01 but with a more street oriented tread coumpound and pattern. I was told they drive very well on track with much better wear than the stock PSS or NT01 with good resistance to heat cycling. Apparently though, they aren’t very good in the wet.

do you think they will rub on a 18 inch wheel with 22 and 34 offset respectively and a 40 sidewall lowered on swift springs with a 275 front and 295 back config?

I do not think anyone has successfully put a 275/40/R18 Extreme Performance Tire up front on the F80. If you do let us know!

I appreciate the opinion, the NT05 looks to be a good option put just isn’t talked about much on the forums.

The NT05 is garbage in both traction and tread wear. The RS3 and Re-11 are far superior

Why are you hesitant to run the NT01?

R compound. Tread life. Cost. Don’t want to drive 100+ miles to the track on R compound. No camber plates, stock suspension. I have run RS3 in past and have been very satisfied. This will be first year tracking the M3.

You know this from personal experience or from word of mouth? Just curious. What care was this on that it was considered garbage? Thanks.

I run the 265/40-18 and 295/40-18 RS4 on mine and they work great on the track and street.. Granted, I don't have any other relevant comparision for track tires on this car, as my last true track car was a turbo miata on R-comps.

I'm still waiting for someone to try to run teh 275/40-18 fronts.. It appears that the extra 1/2" width will be close but doable... Just haven't tried it yet myself...

Yeah someone on here needs to mount one 275/40/RS4 up front and take pictures lol. It probably will be too tight but it will stop all the speculation.

bringing this back alive. @ineedae46m3 did you end up going with the NT05? Currently in the same boat looking at options and am liking the NT05 before "graduating" to an r-comp

I did and I hate them, the RE-71 are much better more grip and more consistent. The NT05 are just slick and loose grip quickly when pushed. IMO garbage wish I had bought the NT01.
