Love the Alfa. Glad to see them making a comeback on US soil with a worthwhile car. Now if only they would scurry off and give us a compact 2 door coupe that takes aim at the M2. M2 size and performance with Italian style? Sign me up!

I wouldn't say "stuck", no one is stuck with anything, can always trade in...

I would consider trading mine in next year for a ZCP except that I have lower back issues and can't live without lumbar

personally I think the ZCP isn't a bad price when you break everything out. Really only paying about $2,000 for the "tune"

I like the Alfa but could have sworn I read a while ago it was going to be AWD, if it was I would consider trading the M3 for it. Guess I will have to wait for the RS5 sportback

ZCP is worth it if you plan on staying stock. If you're going to run a 265/305 extreme performance tire setup with coilovers, is ZCP still worth it?

Not for me personally

The Alfa is a fantastic car but the interior and the long term reliability would be the problems drag it down.
M is still greater then any other competitors.

Alpha is a risky choice, who knows how reliable it will be.

Honestly, I don't feel like the traditional alpha triangle grill doesn't look that great on the is car. It looks like a beak.

Just on the looks: M and C63 are both aging very well. I think both still look great. ATSV suddenly looks 12 years old to me. Alfa is obviously fresh but a welcome entrant.

that said....in normal everyday driving it is a toss-up...personal preference as the cars are very closely matched...
and in the real world the only place to to have the 2 compete is the track...
and I'm of the school of thought that it will basically come down to the driver...

@Doc. I agree that for me the Alfa purchase was just about wanting something different after 28 years of owning M cars....and finally realizing a dream to own an Italian sports car/saloon.
the key for me will hang on its reliability, durability, dealer service.
I have been watching/reading the threads here about people comparing the 2 & I notice ironically, that the majority of the F80 cars are leases....
IMHO how can you offer an opinion on a car that you drive/rent for a max of 3 years for most, and every service, and issue will be covered under warranty or service?....
all of my M's have been very very good cars over the long haul, from reliability, cost to maintain was normal to me based on the fact they these are high performance cars that require routine & preventive maintenance in order to give you years of satisfaction. the only dog of the bunch was my E92 that was almost lemoned under NYS law....didn't stop me from getting an F80....
just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents as I have experienced both cars..
Regards
M
True, but I look at it from the prospective of if its free, and yeah there are a few bad apples of the F8X, but in a whole its a pretty reliable car. As I would think BMW would ensure it is the 1st 50k. But in a whole BMWs are, however when they break they break and its gets expensive.

I myself bought my car but switch up 2-4yrs.

I think the problem with Alfa as a brand is its history and the unknown. So far a few reviews have mentioned problems with cars, again it happens to everyone. But if Alfa is not successful it could be killed off again in a few years, as we know FICA hasn't been doing well with car sales as whole beyond the Charger.

I would like to buy one but will wait a year to see the Residuals and the likelihood of the brand being successful long-term.

I agree that Alfa will need to overcome a bad history and only time will tell

Alfa looks like an Infiniti Q50 to me. Not a fan of interior design / quality as well.

BMW doesn't need to respond - just mount R-compound tires on the M3 ZCP and you will get better performance. Alfa is sort of cheating with 60 TW tires here.

In another Motortrend On-Demand video (Ignition), they also do a Alfa vs M3 hot lap at Thunderhill West (2 mile), and it the M3 also virtually ties it as it does here (but a little faster vice being a little slower here).

The new Alfa looks like crap to me. It looks VERY similar to a Kia Optima. (Go ahead, google it...)

Dumb question. Is it possible to add the competition package on non-zcp m3? I bought my first m3 and wasnt aware of a zcp nor even told by the dealer when buying my car. Sucks. Or is it possible to swap just the exhaust and springs to gain same level on the car?

Or maybe those who opted not to buy a ZCP car after driving one (...and I've owned a '15 and now own an Individual '17; I could have opted for ZCP if I wanted one, so I wasn't "stuck" by any means).
