There is only so much an exhaust of the car can do. You do understand the importance of the engine itself when it comes to the sound of a car? You also do understand that when you are driving a car, 90% of what you hear is the engine and not the exhaust.

These cars have been sounding pretty terrible from the get go. There has been numerous videos shot in various places where this was very obvious. I think a lot of us have gotten too used to the E9X and the S65 and that's why we are all underwhelmed.

I'm sorry, what were you expecting? It's a 6 cylinder turbo engine. And BMW has a lot of those, go drive a 335 and you can hear how the engine sounds like. Exhaust is another matter and these Ms do have a better exhaust than a 335, but as I said in my previous post, these cars will not sound the way S65 did, no matter what exhaust you get.

Garage List
2015 BMW M4  [10.00]
The M4 looks like a beast. Main thing we learned today was that the deliveries will begin in June

The exhaust sounds just as raspy as my E46 M3! Jason, did it sound raspy to you in person at the press conference?

Wow, with the 80s rock music combined with the VHS camcorder used, I was eagerly expecting the E30 M3 to be rolled out.

I'm sorry - that was a debut of a multi million dollar signature vehicle?

I'm seen high school seniors put together cleaner entrances with more oomph and give more rousing speeches. Yeesh. From a marketing perspective, I am sitting here cringing to the point it makes me feel less of the car.

Was that talk supposed to be for enthusiasts or shareholders? Either way it was terrible.

I don't care about sales numbers, I care about cars. Actually, the only time I care about sales numbers is when it's very low - like less than 1,900 Z4M Coupes sold, less than 800 1Ms sold. These are rare cars and that makes owning one exciting. But talking about selling over 100,000 of this M, millions of that, my BMW no longer feels special.

Just terrible.

if selling tons of cars means you're making great cars then Toyota has won in that category.

I can't be the only one who actually loved how the E46 M3 sounded, and the rasp it had?

I really like the M3 and M4 sound, might me in the minority now, but just like people miss this and miss that as soon as emotions settle and the car becomes more accepted in the mainstream people will come around. It was the same with people slating the E92 and now it's everybody's sweetheart.

Great job BMW, you never disappoint
