As usual, looks like BMW and M put a ton of thought into this car. Not that should surprise anyone.

Very cool analysis. Is there a similar analysis for F30 N20/N26? If so can someone provide a link?

I know youre probably joking but i believe in sport+ it is meant to remain closed to stay in boost.
In other modes it isnt. I know if i put mine in comfort i can hear a blow off.
But where is it? I didn't see it in the diagram nor was I able to locate it by quickly looking at the engine bay at the dealer.
whats 9 in the fourth pic? seems like it has one vacuum line and other end would go into piping in the previous pic? i could be wrong im just basing it on looks alone haha

IMO, on this forum, the most under-talked about aspect is the chassis. LOOK AT THE CHASSIS WORK done here. The design, the bracing, the rigidity. This is literally stuff that takes many, many thousands of dollars and significant sacrifices in comfort to achieve with previous generations. And would add alot of weight.

I was driving my 07 v10 TDI touareg today. 3-ton german tank. Air suspension with 5 modes and 8 inches of adjustment up/down. Etc.

And on a bumpy road, I felt the chassis flexing around. I despise that feeling.

In my drive of the f80, and to the credit of the f30 I felt it starting there, it is quite simply the most solid chassis I've ever experienced in a 2+2 or 4 door car. Which blows my mind in a 110" wheelbase vehicle.

Is the cooling for the water on the a2w intercooler shared with the radiator?

Without even looking at the diagrams, I am going to say no. Why? Well, if radiator water was used in the intercooler, it would often heat up the air, rather than cool it down, as radiator water generally, once it gets to operating temperature, is anywhere from 180-230 degrees farenheit, and that's pretty warm, compared to intake air temp. Now, if boosting the air pressure (and I can't be bothered to do the PV=nRT equations right now) heats the air up warmer than that, well, then, maybe radiator water would help cool it down, but it would still be MUCH more efficient to use a seperate system.

To me the most added values of the F30 are the chassis, engine(mine is N26), and transmission. I am looking forward to riding in a F80 and feeling how those three behave.

I truly think that no stone was left un-turned when designing the new M. It's an epic machine!

Part 9 in that image is the electric water pump, used to pump coolant through the heat exchanger.

Absolutely. I think that the chassis development is really the unsung hero of the F8x. Sure, the BMW press documents mentioned that the rear subframe was rigidly mounted to the car, but without a background in engineering I feel like some of the chassis development is lost on the average BMW customer. I literally stared at the chassis bracing images in awe when they were first released.

Chassis bracing is absolutely effective. There are only so many beams one can integrate into the body shell, before bolt-in solutions must be designed. After all, if the entire engine bay is wrapped in reinforcement, we must still have a way to remove and install the engine! This is why BMW has used bolt-in solutions on the F8x, and as you stated the Japanese tuning community has been at this same technique for years.
