Yes it is. While I don't have it handy, i've seen BMW PDF's with this information confirming so.

The real irony here is BMW put a touchscreen in a car that has a screen that is hard to reach haha. Gesture control would have been the real upgrade. I am jealous that you all will get the flatter iDrive contoller tho haha

Please just google this. The change comes after July 2017.
http://www.bmwusanews.com/newsreleas...=&searchresult 2018 BMW M3 Sedan. Changes to the BMW M3 are effective July 2017 production. Standard Equipment now includes: LED Headlights (5A2) replace Xenon adaptive headlights (522+524), which are no longer offered. The illuminated matte-chrome M badge on the seat has been redesigned to high-gloss black, and includes the M3 model name. iDrive 6.0 with Touch Screen Technology is standard.

The 5series 10" touch screen was a beauty and it worked really well, almost like an iPad touch screen quality and experience. After 10mns "touching" and "swiping", smudges were minimal and barely visible. I think the new 5 series gets probably also upgraded HU HW, the experience was smooth and finally worth having in a car. The hand gesture to control volume was cute but I wouldn"t use it often. Navigation was really nice and a major upgrade over my crappy NBT ! And the new controller was a nice welcome change, light an a nice clicky feel ! I'd also love to upgrade my crappy old HU-NBT to a G series equivalent but unsure if there will be 8.8" touchscreens. Also the G series CID is like 1500 eur Last edited by aboulfad; 07-26-2017 at 06:52 AM.. |

If the production date of that "M3/M4" was pre-July then obviously it will not have a touchscreen.

On the other hand, if true, then depending on the HU hw (CID vs HU APIX1/2...), then it may be possible to order the touchscreen and w a bit of work, one could retrofit it! PS: I’ll visit the dealer and grab the VIN of the 2018 F8xx. EDIT: they are 04/2017 Last edited by aboulfad; 07-26-2017 at 04:41 PM.. |

You quoted the BMW press release explaining when this production change will take place. Production changes happen all the time.
The HU_NBT2/APIX2 has a "touchscreen" coding option. So technically it can be retrofitted to MY2017 and pre-July MY2018. Quote:

The really easy solution to fingerprints on a touchscreen is to carry a small microfiber towel (washcloth sized) in the door bin or console. When the fingerprints overwhelm your OCD, just wipe off the screen. As the title of this thread states, much ado about nothing.
I don't understand how anyone so averse to fingerprints uses a smartphone or tablet.

I?ve went over three days for different reasons and used the 5 series touchscreen, I admit I am hooked and the smudges only show up under certain lighting conditions. The screen quality and experience far outweigh the OCD factor most of us have. However it seems the location in the G series is closer to the driver than in the F8x but wasn?t an issue.

Whether you can reach the touchscreen or not from your normal driving position is really a moot point because you shouldn't be using it that way anyway, particularly if you have to stretch to reach it. It will still make it easier to input info when you are stopped, like inputting your destination before trying to drive to the destination. Again, much ado about nothing. Of course, if you don't like the touchscreen for whatever reason, just don't use it!

and just to confirm, I received my 2018 M4 LCI with the production date 15-May-2017. It has iDrive 6 but without the touch screen functionality.

Congrats on your M And if it?s any consolation, the idrive 6 works really nice compared to the first ones (HU-NBT).

That's true but it would've been much easier to type on a touch screen to enter addresses. I can't stand typing or writing on that iDrive controller, I just lookup addresses on my phone's BMW Connected Drive app and send it to the vehicle.
