Audio crackle with HK speakers

Hey guys, I've been experiencing some crackle at medium to high volume with the HK speakers and this is with being connected through the USB. My sources are great quality.. Spotify at extreme. There is no crackle in regular radio stations with the same volume. Any advice would be appreciated.

I have the same problem! I thought it was just me, it's really annoying. What could be causing it?

I haven't had that issue but suggest you consider trying another USB cable.

I hear it from the tweeters in the doors on any kind of source or connection type. It doesn't discriminate on any volume either. My noise sounds like a rock hitting the glass.

I haven't notice any of that. I'd say replace the speakers, but that is more than likely not the issue.

Mine does this too... they replaced the speakers and it still does it at certain frequencies. My guess isthe speaker mounting is vibrating due to poor design.

HK system isn't very good, but it's tolerable and I can live with it. Then again, I'm used to expensive focal speakers that I had in my previous car, which were much better. It's a huge upgrade from the stock 335 system my wife has though... and for the price, I'm not too upset. Can't expect much for sub $2k audio upgrade (and on MY16 it is stock now right?).

FWIW, I had to heavily adjust the settings of it before it was tolerable. Default settings it's absolute dog shit.

My guess is some dynamat would go a long way.

If it is volume independent it is not caused by mechanical defects in the speakers.

Are you doing Spotify through USB?

How are you doing with line in at different volumes?

Had a similar problem with the passenger rear speaker in my M4. Went away with the Bavsound upgrade.

Yeah only had my 2016 for a week and it does the same thing. Sounds like small rock hitting windshield intermittently; seems to be more prevalent when streaming and/or Sirius XM but that could just be randomness.

Sucks. And I'm sure if I brought it to their attention at the dealer they'd tell me its operating normally

My right rear tweeter is crackling / vibrating at moderate high volumes with certain tones. I'm pretty sure the speaker is blown.

Then my left rear was blown from the factory and its replacement is also blown

Mine does this on both the original and replacement speaker. I'm convinced it is a vibration/mounting design issue/

Sounds like clipping in the audio signal. Meaning, the signal volume is too high. An analogy is being too zoomed in on a picture and the edges being cut off. I'd try listening via USB to songs which are older and relatively more quiet at the same volume to see if the problem persists. If it does, then the problem is probably elsewhere in the system. If it stops, likely a clipped signal issue.

In the Tone setting deselect the sounds sound. It will still play on all speakers but the sound is much better and cleaner without the crackling.

Had this same issue for a year and a half. Unplugged active sound last week and the HK's are operating flawlessly now. And full range.

Mine has the same issue. They replaced the speakers twice already still not solved the problem. The Bmw tech told me there's no way to fix it,it's rattling everywhere. Can't believe it happens in this luxury car.
