Why are there so many m3 and m4 for sale?
Most posts lack any reason why the car is for sale, often times with less than 10k on it. Trying to help you guys move them, it may be beneficial to include a short sentence why moving on. |

People either can't afford them or have short attention spans

What difference does it make? Does reason affect the market value of the car?

LOL, if everything checks out with the car, or any item in general, does the reason really matter?
I've faced this question several times having sold a few cars, and other miscellaneous items over the years. I've always been transparent to those who ask, but I never really understood the logic behind the question. If one were to list something for sale, do they really need to provide a reason for selling? Do you ask the BMW dealer what's their reason for selling? How about a used car dealer? Do you ask the retail stores why they're selling merchandise? Do you ask car shops why they're selling their services? Personally, I feel it's a stupid/loaded question that is quite unnecessary. If people asking this type of question are doing so in order to spot defects or ill intent, then you're doing it wrong. As dumb as they are, no crook is ever going to tell you what you're looking to hear. |

After test driving a ZCP, it makes non-ZCP guys want that extra and since the payments can be so close many will sell their older non-ZCPs to move to ZCPs. Some others like myself start to realize that the $500 a month these cars will depreciate can be used for better purposes. Either way, a car is never an investment (unless you're buying a garage queen M before 2006 or a pristine E92) so learning to move on at some point is expected. I even don't plan on keeping my F80 for more than a year or 2. My favorite quote I've had so far was from my friend and his old ZR1. He said, "Do you know the best part of owning a $60k+ car?.... Selling it" |

If a real buyer is in the market for a used car and finds what they want, in the color/specs close to what they want, clean and otherwise in great condition, mileage, age etc. inline w/ what they are looking for, with a fair asking price ... do you really think they will be dissuaded from buying or making an offer because the listing doesn't mention reason for selling? Come on. If you really care, ask the seller in the process of doing your due diligence.
I get people are curious, but satisfying the curiosity of window shoppers isn't the object of a listing. If someone asks, sure, but I see no reason to clutter up a listing w/ sentimental or irrelevant information. The listing should be all business IMO. Accurately/honestly describe the item and it's condition, include pics, relevant information like location, when it's available, shipping/logistics details etc, and include a way to be contacted for follow up questions. You don't need to explain your reasons for selling something in a classified/ad/listing and I see no benefit to doing so. Last edited by Walt Dockery; 12-19-2017 at 08:43 AM.. |

I agree with Walt.
There's no reason to put a "why" in the listing. Generally once you get into a convo with a seller that information may come out. But even if it doesn't, if you've done your due diligence and it's what you want why would you care? It's frankly none of your business if they can't afford the car, buying something else, etc. Either you want it or your don't.

I honestly think most of the ones on here for sale or lease takeover are due to folks not being able to afford them. Most people on this forum are "car rich" which means putting a large amount of your monthly income into a lease or finance payment but having nothing else much to show for! Lol. Which is why they won't mention it! Maybe folks are getting smarter.
I also think there is only so much you can do with an f8x besides FBO (which is easily reversed for lease return or sale). In a day and age where modified 600-1000+ hp cars are all over YouTube and the streets, I think people are just moving off the Bmw platform due to the Bmw tax and the ridiculous pricing on mods. That's my best guess |

its just plain curiosity. Everyone always wants to know why your selling what your selling, whether it is a car, bicycle, wash machine, camera, clothes, cat, girlfriend.....
If they are selling because something is wrong with it, then they will make something up to tell you |

I'm selling mine because i beat it and abused it so hard I want out before it breaks.
Seriously though how many of those asked will give a truthful answer. |

I'm selling mine for the sole fact that I don't have the chance to drive it at all due to having a car for work and ubering everywhere on the weekends. It's the best car I've ever owned, yet my lifestyle hasn't allowed me to allocate much time to it and I just hate seeing it sit in my garage doing nothing. Feel it would be in better hands with someone that can enjoy it more than I can.
Trust me, if the car was a disappointment, dealers would not be able to move them. It's an amazing car, and everyone has their reason for selling it early into ownership. |

I just don't think it needs to be in the original write-up. A smart buyer will ask as it is part of the purchase due diligence. Even if it is in the original write-up I'd still ask / reconfirm. |
