First mods

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
While waiting on my F80 alpine white, been thinking about mods, both cosmetic and power.

First regarding power, what are your thoughts on the Dinan tune for this car?

Regarding cosmetics, besides wheels, which I will keep stock for now, what are your recommendations for first few steps? I'm thinking black grille to start.

Thanks

Dinan tune: expensive but 100% warranty backed. If you're not that "savvy" (not that putting a piggy back in is difficult, but you do have to at least get close to some high tech components!) its a better bet, and if you're leasing you have next to no liability. Its also not really "user friendly" in that other systems (JB4 comes to mind) they will continuously update things, eventually let you control maps through the steering wheel with any luck, and really change some fun other settings behind the scenes.

Dinan is like an expensive one stop shop upgrade that you never have to touch or worry about. If you like tinkering go with something else and it will be cheaper and more customizable.

haven't tried it but been researching all the various tuners for this engine. So Dinan's tuner is a piggy back ecu controller except they state it goes one step further in providing the ecu with short term trim in order to optimize air/fuel mixture and ignition timing for the added boost. I would wait to see customers on the road with this before ordering it. haven't seen a review yet of it. I still think a true ecu reprogram is the best way to tune the car.

black kidney grilles make alpine white look so much better go for it!

I would spend a couple of months and 1000's of mile getting used to the power of the S55, before deciding to upgrade the power. And I say that coming from a high rwhp, modified car.

Plenty of reviews. Look for a thread started by Money. A few of us have the tune. Works very well.

I agree that the new M3/M4 is very potent. I'm coming from a pulley'd '14 GT500 so hopefully it is more manageable than that stock haha

My first mod for to go ahead and curb the wheels, that way I could quit worrying about it.

For white, I like the black grills and black front splitters look. Lip not necessary. And black or CF rear spoiler. The only rear splitter I love is the Akra one, but I've only seen it with their exhaust which is very pricey.

I echo your sentiment. The stock s55 has been Dyno tested to 480 hp! Most of the populace can't handle that much power to the rear wheels even with nannies on board. Master the stock and save the money for a new set of track tires.
