Been a year of ownership and no problems with fit or finish yet with the F80. As I'm sure there's a big leap from the B8 to B9 from an interior standpoint. Will be driving the B9 A4 for a week as a rental in April, and looking forward to it for a better assessment.
My wife had a B8.5 A4 before the B9 S4 and while the B8.5 interior was good, the B9 feels like moving up to a different level of car. It's absolutely stunning in person.

B9 A4 is a great car. We currently have a prestige S-line as a loaner as the S4 is in the shop for maintenance and it's fantastic. Truth be told, we probably would have been just as happy with it.

Finally, I will add this- the base A4 is typically what rentals companies utilize (I've had one as a rental), and this is not really reflective of the middle and higher trims.

But with the G80 at least two, perhaps three, years away, this could be an alternative for some looking for a change when the F80 lease is up.

Interesting (perhaps only to me) that they use a 2x2 weave on the RS dash trim, vs 1x1 weave on the S4 carbon.

Dammit I got wood just reading that

Saw a few A5 sportbacks on the road already and even those look pretty damn good to me, the RS is gonna be sexy. So heavy but I guess it's the price to pay for AWD. Would not kick one out of bed but if I had the choice between a Sportback and an Avant it's the latter all bloody day

With that mindset, they nailed it.
Correct. I owned an Audi before the M3 and knew this was Audi's approach. Still, they are competitors, so the comparison is unavoidable. Audi didn't have to make it a pig to accomplish their goal.

I have both an F80 with full leather and a 2018 S4 in the household....the Audi interior soundly trounces it. The F80 interior fit and finish barely belongs in a Honda Accord...I wish it had the same quality as the E90 generation.
Seriously? The Audi interior is superior no doubt, but to say the F80 interior barely belongs in an Accord? Would love to see your criteria for this...

I'm just confused by it's existence. I think the A5/S5/RS5's are one of the best looking coupes out there. This is not. Just get an A7 if you want that slopeback.

The A4 and up are still built on the MLB matrix, so the engine is north-south, and the AWD system is also rear biased. That said, the engine is still further over the wheels than the as-capable (or moreso) MSB matrix and competing modular vehicle platforms from BMW, Mercedes, and others.

There are rumors that VAG will drop MLB late next decade, moving the A6 and up to MSB, but unfortunately moving the A4, A5, and Q5 families to MQB. So it’s possible that things will actually get worse for VAG vehicles in this class. However, this is all speculative and by no means a lock.

I thought the all new RS5 weights in @3650lb, not too bad; being AWD it's always heavier

The best M4 can do, with CF roof, CCB, MT is around 3500lb

The only logical response from BMW here is the M4 GC

I used to be a big time Audi guy but their models are starting to look similar to other brands (Hyundai front end with huge grille and no bumper).

While I give them props for beautiful interiors, BMW still gets my vote for not ditching MT's.

Does the RS use a different steering setup/software compared to the S5? The steering is too light on the S5 sportback but I love everything else that it offers from a practicality standpoint.

Honestly wish BMW would offer an M version of their hatchbacks/GC models but rwd.

As much as I'm eager to get back into an RS product (we get the wagons here but only if the 4 had that tear drop bonnet like the 5) I'm still on fence with the gt setup and dull panamera engine they put in it

Watching all the vids of rs4/5 the engine lacks any kind of character or decent noise - keen to hear what aftermarket can do with the exhaust though

Re the gt setup this I don't understand as Audi already have that in the S cars

Brand new lighter chassis, torque vectoring diff, zf 8 speed, all latest tech, proper torsen awd, engine positioned further back than Audi's of old, a tt v8 on the shelf and they build a v6 gt car - wasted opportunity
