After your F8x M3/M4, are you going to get a G8x M3/M4?
What are you guys planning to do? Are you going to move on to the G8x?
I plan to sell my car in a year or two and move into a F80 ///M3 and wait to see if I like the G80s (and monitor any potential issues). Or depending upon where life takes me, move on to a 911 GTS.

I will likely get a G80 next, but it is obviously a wait and see at this point. Even if there are some drastic changes to the G80 (auto only, awd, etc) it will likely be a great car, it will just be whether or not that car fits what I am looking for at the time.

Most likely move to G8x M4 or M8 unless 911 GT3 blow me away

If no manual, the next M3/4 will be dead to me. It's a good thing the current generation is such a fantastic car!

Since the convertible is now a soft top. I will never buy another soft top convertible and I do want a convertible so I am not sure. I will stick to my M4 F83 ZCP for a while and maybe change brands altogether

I believe most of us will either keep our F8x’s until the G80 shows up. I can safely say the rendering (not official) has not impress me but is too early in the game to give an ultimatum.

I don't believe in brand loyalty so it depends on what they're offering. I understand evolution is an objective of the M brand from generation-to-generation but the F8x will be difficult to top. I have no qualms staying in my current car for a while if the G80 doesn't measure up.

I think we are at one of those low points in car design where the companies are struggling to adjust to world emissions and economy standards, and at the same time trying to see if electrics will be a passing fad, niche, or dominant. Tough environment for them. But for us that means a lot of 4-cyl turbo/super engines (but still heavy cars), tuning for economy (not sport), etc. The difference between the current M3/4 and the best of the non-M 3/4 series is really dramatic - more so than I ever recall.
So this makes it really hard to say what I would do, because I don’t really know what all of the other autos will do - will there be a great AMG? How about the cat or Aston? Will Alfa get its shit together (they’re close)? There is nothing out there today that really inspires me, including from BMW, but that will change. I may switch brands if a great car comes elsewhere. I may hold my F80 longer than I typically have waiting for something really better. Or ?? |

Depends on life circumstances and the type of vehicle I'm looking for.
Really happy the F80 is available with a 6-speed so I can get my fix. Keeping the car opens the door to other performance vehicles that may or may not be offered with a manual transmission. |

The G8x M3/M4 will be here tentatively early 2021, with the optimistic possibility that the G80 comes first in 2020. A non-trivial number of people who have a 2016 or 2017 F80 now will turn it and move into something else before the G80 is available. Now it is possible that some of those folks get a 2019 or 2020 M4, but many sedan buyers need those four doors. |

Well its almost a guarantee that the G8x will be a faster car and subjectively better in everyway. With that being said most of us will trade up when it comes out.
At first there will be resistance and denial. Random complaining and attacking, because no one wants to admit they're shit is now a Civic M3... Then as more people buy it and the magazines start reviewing it, people will go into the acceptance phase. As people on the forums start modding them and they start showing up at car events looking badass...now comes the true believer phase. Before we know it everybody declares themselves a true "G" and begins posting and writing about their new M. One thing's for sure, that mother effer better have a better sounding exaust. |

I don't love the looks of the 'vert with the top up, but it still looks like coupe vs a convertible - I hate the soft top look. |

It is surprising that some of the posts assume most people will stick with an M3/M4.
It does make more sense if someone is leasing their current F8X and their lease budget remains about the same. In such a case there is a higher probability they will re-up with another M3/M4 so long as BMW keeps offering affordable leases (relative to other vehicles in the same price range). There is a higher probability for those that purchased their current F8X to keep or sell the F8x, and acquire something that is not an M3/M4. I would not want to own both an F8x and G series M3/M4 at the same time - not enough variation. Nor would I want to purchase another M3/M4 after this one - again, not enough variation. In my ideal scenario, I keep the F80 (since manual sedans are rare, and almost a unicorn), and get some other type of performance vehicle. |

Probably won't get the G80. I've never bought the same brand twice in a row. I've gone from Audi to Merc to Audi and now BMW. Porsche is next on my list. Will either be a 911 4S or Macan GTS, depending on my life situation.

I haven't seen anything that makes me want to pick up a G80 just yet. I dumped my E92 because it had too many real-world compromises (mostly the poor fuel economy, tiny fuel tank, and crap manual transmission), but otherwise it was a blast. The F80 seemed to be a fix for everything I hated about the E92. Better fuel economy, more doors, more torque, DCT (by choice), great technology, and still an absolute track monster. It did everything I wanted.
The G80 would really have to impress me to get me to let go of what is, in my opinion, the perfect car for me, especially since I hate having a car payment. |

Anyway, the F8x is "better", certainly in performance, interior, etc, however it's also missing the soul of E9x ... Plus the 2018s are wussified, albeit better performers when driven in anger. So, I'll be looking forward to the G8x ... especially if they can put the soul back. |

No.I have zero brand loyalty. I have had American, Japanese, and German cars. Love my F82 but I have to move UP on my next car, not stay stagnant. Whatever is next will be 6 figures. I'm 25 now(came from a very poor family so zero handouts here, made me work very hard for what I want instead of sitting there in pity and jealousy) so I have plenty of time to continue to move up but will enjoy this one for a while!
Next on the list for me isn't for a while as I really love this car and don't see myself changing it for a couple of upgrades and starting from scratch. Let alone a first year model. Love what BMW does but I see myself going a different route next time. No more a jack of all trades so I'd like to focus on a nice daily car and a very fun manual garage car. |

Since I placed an order for a 2018 F83 today it will be three years before I have to make that decision. If BMW goes back to a soft top I won't go for an M4 convertible but would seriously consider a coupe as I have other convertibles. It won't bother me if they replace the DCT with the ZF 8 Speed (or its successor) as I have driven an M235 Factory Racer with the ZF 8 Speed and it is a great transmission,
