my dream car was a cayman but i also considered the F type. sounds amazing but the interior tech sucks a$$ (interior and tech are important to me). but i still have two young children so i need to be able to fit two car seats as well

It's crazy how it happens.... I have a 2016 M3 and my wife a 2018 S4 (same color combo as OP). However, my in-laws recently gave us their 2000 Nissan Xterra SE that they bought new back in 99....And we drive that way more than our other two cars. In fact, it's made me question if I need the M3 as I don't mind driving the Xterra- especially since I was easily able to do an aftermarket stereo again (hallelujah)

Also like the OP mentioned the Audi S models are plenty fast enough and way more comfortable to live with daily.

If you're getting a 2 seats sports car, it's all about WANTS not needs, and doesn't everyone want EPIC POWER

(obviously not, since this post is about downgrading performance for quilted seats )

After having just owned a 981S, I know I don't "NEED" epic power. That car was the most fun I've owned. More fun than the 997 Turbo, the C6Z06 and the GTR. Different strokes for different folks.

it's fine, though. OP knows what he wants in a car, and shows how his car purchase fills those wants.

i'm totally the opposite - my higher brain functions go "you're older now, you should really look for luxury, and practicality, and maturity". then i start looking at pictures on the internet and the reptilian primitive part goes "GRRR RACECAR RACECAR RACECAR" and i end up with another impractical sports car.

so congrats to the OP for being more mature if you tire of the S5 you can always replace it with another car anyway

Indeed. Indeed.

There's a lot to be said about a car that's lower powered and easier to max out and closer to the driver's level.

I switched my track car from f80 to spec Miata for that reason

(But not a day goes by when I don't think about buying an LS V8 swap for the Miata)

What is up with the Long vents the Audi has ? Looks weird.
I do miss my V8 S5. However , the F80 makes me forget about the s5 with a huge smile on my face.

It won't be spec anymore if I drop a V8 into there

But yea, it's at first quite humbling to see how much time I have left on the table vs. the front runners in the class.

Great learning, wish I did it many years ago

Why an Audi S5 if you hardly use the power of a performance car? Would an entry-level Audi A5 S-line edition with more optional extras not cost less, offer better comfort than an S5 and still fulfill your everyday needs?

because i think 350 HP is a nice middle ground

and the S5 has a special virtual cockpit option

and the S5 has the red qulited leather seats

and once you loaded them up like i wanted the price difference was minimal

I wanted to type something scoffing at this, but I drove 3.5hr one way to a track day last month, and towards the end of the drive I started to get a cramp from the lightweight / fixed back bucket seat and would have LOVED to have quilted leather seats right at that moment

It's a 42xx lb car anyway, so might as well have all the luxury features

I appreciate your very specific, laser-honed interest in me personally and my opinion as opposed to anyone else's for example. But I'll decline engaging in an off topic personal discussion at this time. The thread is about a vehicle purchase, and that's exactly what my reply addressed. Feel free to add your reply about that topic too if you wish.

Edit: Thanks again for keeping it on topic.
Lol, that was wussy/passive aggressive stuff for someone saying they are not engaging. Did seem like you were more focused on dude's opinion (which is personal) as opposed to his car selection (which you say this forum is for).

That said, the Audi does have a nicer interior than BMWs in general, but I am not a fan out their outward appearance. The M3 with ZCP seats is pretty dang uncomfy and I am cool with and have used Porsche buckets in daily commuted cars. The M3 is miserable when it comes to efficiently putting power down so it actually does not need the power it has.

I just about picked up an R8 Spyder two weeks ago to use as my daily driver to work though because I do like the Audi ride and the feel of an Audi as a daily driver. I also love the gated manual. The F80 M3 ZCP is just lacking in driver qualities for reasons I have never really been able to my finger on other than just did not like the feel.

The long center portion of the vent is fake..the actual vents are on the outside corners. They put that long center piece in for design continuity .
