Yes, you are. Several of us have had both. I've got dynos on both. They are not equivalent.

Although irrelevant, from his sig, it appears he does.

Two connectors with no ability to data log != access to a vast amount of DME tables, tune customization, and endless calibration possibilities depending on mods and fuel.

Seriously, comparing a JB to a customizable flash tune is like comparing having your dick accidentally brushed by another dude to getting laid by a supermodel.

While I dont disagree a JB4 is primitive compared to a flash tune the results dont lie. JB4 powered cars still own the fastest times out there.

Warranty P other comment is interesting as well. A flashed ECU seems to be a voided warranty now from what people are saying. I've been told flash tune sales have slowed lately due to this.

All mods void warranty. Nothing new. My brother tells me FASTA report nails all of them flash or piggy as it shows and uploads max injector flow rates to BMW among many other values which are far exceeded past factory tune values with a JB4 and other piggybacks. You mod they will know but they don't immediately void warranties. With both though if something expensive breaks you can try buying a new DME and code it to the car. That way you start fresh if you're the kind of asshole to go in with something broken for warranty work because of your mods and give them stories about being clueless about it. My brother can't stand guys like that and he sees this all the time.

Ya man. Warranty concerns are the main reason I don't have bootmod on my M4. One thing I miss about the e9x platform was the ease of flash tuning through the OB2 port. I had a PTF Cobb pro tune on my N54 and it was great. This time around I have to either pull the DME myself or pay to have it done which is rather annoying. To Add to the annoyances BMW is now cracking down on "jailbroken" DMEs. Is it worth it? Not sure the risk and hassle of getting my car flagged or worse is worth 50-100hp on a car that is already fast and has traction issues.

No one, or at least I'm not, is disputing that the JB4 is an effective tuning solution although not as sophisticated or elegant as a flash tune. However, Warranty P compared the JB Stage 1 to BM3. That's just ridiculous.

Yes, you are missing that the JB4 is detectable and voids your warranty just the same.

Proof of this? I've been running JB4 a long ass time and had my car connected to the computer many times. Its not flagged. If my engine blew and they sent my ECU away they would probably find the values and say I had a tune but with the flash they are saying it just automatically uploads it and you're instantly flagged. Big difference.

This statement is not entirely true. Most of those cars you are referring to run a JB4 to be able to integrate meth injection or E85 to be able to make the most use out of their upgraded turbos. Not to mention that a lot of them run a back-end flash as well.

Ran against an M4 with JB4 and full bolt-ons (DPs, intake, and straight-pipes), pulled a couple of car lengths against him with my M3 running on an OTS map and DPs only.

Running e85 is one of the advantages which can take you to the next level. This doesn't make the statement less true. I personally like flexibility. And I'm not talking about upgraded turbo cars.

Which OTS map? Which JB4 map? Which fuel?

Edit ahh I see it in the video. Stage 2 vs Map 2 both on pump gas. The video does not play though.

Recently was having an issue with my car, took it to the dealer with the PTF flash tune installed. They did lots of different tests to diagnose the issue (car spent 10 days in total at the dealership), not once did they even suspect the car being tuned, so if being automatically flagged was true, they wouldn't have wasted their time. Particularly that the dealership here in Kuwait has flagged cars and denied warranty work for cars with a simple axle-back on them, so they really wont think twice if they knew I had a tune.

The issue turned out to be a bad spark plug in case you were curious.

Both cars running 98RON pump gas and I'm running PTF Stage 2, the JB4 was set to Map 2.

Strange....Try searching on Youtube for this "BMW M3 bootmod3 vs BMW M4 JB4"

Both cars are non-ZCP and both are DCT and both running same tires (Toyo R888R)

Zcp makes a huge difference with jb4 and obviously no difference with a flash tune. Ide love to see a zcp jb4 car vs a flash tune car both on pump gas.

Nice kill btw car looks quick.

Oh damn son you pulling strong there! On pump gas there is no just zero contest. Bm3 stage 2 pump gas map is killer and it shows in that vid. And you just got downpipes and the other is full boltons?

Consistency is where the flash tunes outperform the piggy backs and plus all the GTS features you get with them. Unless the jb car is runnin different fuel it will not have a chance against the bm3 unless the car runnin bm3 is spinning its rears the whole time. Buddy of mine had both and he agrees with bm3 being the better choice of the two.
