What was your break in service milage?
Whats the earliest a dealership will do this service? When was yours done?
I've heard of some doing it at 900 miles. Others won't do it below 1100. Just curious. Thanks for the feedback |

Um, obviously or he would have posted a different number.
Not to come after you, but why are people so anal about this. 100 miles is NOT going to matter. You know what could matter, sitting in traffic when it has 300 miles on it and raising the engine metal temps to near their max. Or sitting on a highway at the same speed for miles at a rip. Or sitting starting it and letting it idle for 10 minutes. All three scenarios are so much worse than if you didn't change the oil until 1500 miles. Breaking an engine in is about heat management and load management, not when you change the oil. |

I'm just curious about the variation of dealerships standard. You're the one making it "Anal". |

I brought mine home, varying engine speeds and loads as much as I could. Then let it cool to room temperature, then take it out, get it up to operating temp, vary revs and load, redline a few times not under full throttle though, let it decelerate it down to near idle a few times. Bring it home, let it cool completely, repeat procedure a few more times and as far as I'm concerned it's broken in. I don't bang off the limiter or anything before the oil change, but I certainly will use it normally after that. My girlfriend just bought a new Toyota Highlander, we were picking it up and finalizing the deal. It seemed to have been taking forever for them to bring us the vehicle. I walked outside and there is her vehicle sitting there idling with 11 miles on it, probably for at least 10 minutes. I nearly stroked out. I went inside and told the salesman one of their lot boys did that and how it's not a good thing, he said "i did that". lol Whoops. |

The car tells you 1200 miles, the manual says 1200 miles, the dealer will tell you 1200 miles, the SA will tell you 1200 miles.... Why was this even a question?
