Crack in iDrive screen
So I have a small crack in the corner of my iDrive screen ('15 M3) . It's in the black bezel so you don't see it at night or during the day unless sunlight is hitting it but of course it's still driving me nuts. The dealer quoted ~$2500 because apparently the whole unit needs to be replaced. Is it possible to replace just the screen? And will the iDrive from an F30 fit/work? There's a bunch available for 3-400 salvage so would much rather do that than spend the equivalent of 4 iPads on an old iDrive.

I didn't even think to try that since the crack is on the outside and everything works, but I guess that's probably the first thing I should do.

My speedo and tach front screen cracked at the bottom. By the mileage. It is covered by the warranty I was told. Did have some tracks days prior, but felt like it cracked later. They replace the entire thing, not just the lens per my SA. Good luck.

If you know how to pull the dashboard trim, it's a very fast and easy switch out. |

Not sure honestly. I first noticed it when it was quite small, has grown enough during the winter that I want to address it before it spreads any more.

Thanks, will be in touch if the warranty doesn't work out.

First go to another dealer and claim manufacturing defect if you didn't cause the crack. If the dealer turns down, then look for a used screen for like $250 on eBay. It is very easy to swap out the screen by yourself.

^^ This ^^ In my 1995 3er, I accidentally caught a thread on one of my cloth seats with the vacuum cleaner and it unraveled a portion of the seat. I took it to the dealer and just showed it to them, didn't say how it happened and they didn't ask. They ordered me a new seat from Germany and fixed it under warranty at the time. The worst the dealer can say is no but it doesn't hurt to ask. OP let us know how it turned out.

Thanks for the advice everyone. Am talking to warranty person at dealer on Monday to see if it can be fixed, otherwise glad to hear the screen can we swapped out separately. Will let you know how it goes.

Update:
Took me a while to get to it but finally got it to the dealer. Sales is telling me it should be warrantied, service is saying they can't warranty it so looking up the part number to see if I can just swap the screen if I source it from somewhere. Service department said they weren't sure if it would work but were willing to try, which isn't exactly confidence inspiring.

Simply pull front dashboard trim piece off - very easy, you can probably dig it with your bare hands (I can). Unscrew the 2 Torx 20 bolts holding CID Screen. Slide screen up. Unplug cable. Plug cable into new CIC Screen. Slide in hole. Put bolts back hint. Press trim into place. Can be done in less time than it takes to fill up your gas tank. |

As can be seen on threads and classifieds (especially f30), there are some really cheap owners who don't mind putting damaged parts on their cars. |

looking for a F34 CID 6.5 2014
Any suggestions on good deals to find a 2014 F34 CID 6.5" screen ? Mine cracked from being in the sun. Mounting instructions don't frighten me :-)
