Waze not playing through speakers?

Hello,

So I am having an odd issue because I am able to pair my iPhone with the car, but sometimes the audio does not play through the car speakers. It doesn't instead play through the phone speakers though, I just don't hear any voice commands at all. This doesn't always happen which makes the issue even more odd to me. Any thoughts on how to solve this would be greatly appreciated. The car is paired via Bluetooth and it connected to from a lighting cable to the USB in the glove box if that makes a difference. Thank you

It has happened to me in multiple cars, so not BMW specific.

If your phone is paired, the phone audio is piped to the car. You need to select Multimedia/your_phone as the input source to your car speakers.

If it is not paired, you'll need to select multimedia/USB.

Some playback apps would allow you to select iPhone speakers or connected speakers. That would be the way to do it.

Not sure what you mean by multimedia as the output source, but this is what my Waze settings look like

I am referring to the "Media" button on iDrive. Essentially when your phone is paired with the car, its audio is piped via Bluetooth to the vehicle's speakers. However, if you are listening to radio, or FM, or CD, you won't hear your phone's audio, unless you switch to multimedia/external_device, and select your phone.

Oh I see, thank you for clarifying that will take a look.

One other thing that may be relevant: my car will only play my Escort Live audio (iPhone) over the speakers if it is NOT connected to the USB port. When I plug it in, the stereo volume lowers but no actual Live sound.

Cheers

I haven't had a chance to take a look at this yet, but if I'm understanding this correctly it seems a bit crazy that if I want to listen to FM or satellite I first have to go to media then select my device then go back to FM then set waze up...

Weird. I think it's a Waze thing and not something with the car

If you want to listen to FM, then your car speakers won't play Waze command. There is no mixer.

If you want FM and Waze at the same time, the easiest thing to do is to stop pairing by turning Bluetooth off on your phone.

That can't be true... I was able to use Waze and FM on my e90...

Alright so I figured out what is going on, I'm really surprised more people haven't chimed in with this as an issue.

If the phone is Not plugged in and just running on Bluetooth Waze works on FM, Satellite, MP3 etc

However, if the phone IS plugged into the USB in the center console, Waze will only play if you are using the MP3 through the phone. FM and satellite will NOT work with Waze if it is plugged in.

Or just tell Waze to play sounds through the phone.....not the bluetooth. Not optimal, but i was tired of not always getting sound. This way i will always get it, just not on the car speakers.

Can't hear it over my music even at full volume on the phone
