I thought that perhaps they switched to NBT-EVO when they changed satellite chips in 2016, but based on your post, appears they installed the new chips for the final year of NBT.

No prob. I was thinking you could also confirm it by the map on the idrive. If you pull up the current map version info is should say NBT or EVO.

What was the build date on your M3?

Wonder if it was mid year change....or if 2kaccordocoupe is incorrect

Interesting... My buddy had a MY16 f82 that was built in Sept 2015 and the car had North American next maps on it which are NBT. I know this for sure as I helped him update the maps to the latest before he sold the car. So if Evo came out in 2016 then it must have been later in the 2016 lifecycle.

I can't remember exactly how to do it, but from your Nav screen I think if you click right, in that menu is something about Map Versions or something like that. I will give you clues in there as it will say EVO as part of the Map Version (does on mine) or not.

I think NBT Evo has the ability to update the maps OTA (over the air)

I dismantled my April 2016 NBT evo unit from 2016 M3 and it has 4gb ram inside, but it's running ID4. Very strange. It shows up as NBT2 in esys

BMW usually make late production changes in March so it is not strange that you got an NBT2 in late MY2016. Note that there are no model years in Germany.

You can. But, you must remove ID4 FSC codes, flash ID5, add & patch new ID5 FSC set. It voids warranty and cannot downgrade beyond certain point. If system has 2 GB, it is also recommended against because results in frequent reboots.
