Don't use phone for flashlight in engine bay

Used my phone as a flashlight today to get to my JB4 and it slips out of my hand and drops ALL the way to the bottom. I could barely even see it, luckily the flashlight was on.

Had to remove the carbon fiber bar & passenger side intake just to get to it ?. Not a fun time, considering I've never unscrewed a single bolt from this engine myself.

Lesson well learned...

If it was a regular flashlight you would have just left it?

Use a steel flashlight so if you drop it an extendable magnet can get it back.

Leave a Fenix PD35 flashlight in your car in the future. If you aren't allowed to carry in your area, you can at least briefly blind someone with it to assist when you aren't dropping it in your engine bay.

It comes with a wrist leash for the clumsy as well!

I have a PD35, on brightest setting it can actually be used as a timing gun

Dropping anything in the engine compartment sucks. Reminds me of an issue with S2000s where the oil fill cap can come off and end up stuck in various places (usually on top of transmission). Very hard to get to and they rattle if you don't retrieve them.

I had the brake fluid reservoir cap off on my M4. I set it on the aluminum strut brace even as I mentally noted that I shouldn't put it there, but I trust myself, don't I?. Of course I bumped it and it fell down into the maze of hydraulic lines. It's plastic so I couldn't use a magnetic retrieval tool. Fortunately, I have one of those retractable spring-loaded claw things with a big red button and I was able to maneuver the cap into a position so that I could grab it on the side and fish it out.

Yeah was modding the front hood extension for better fitment of my Exotics Tuning hood and stupidly left a bolt on the engine that of course promptly fell through and landed on wrong side of scuff guard at bottom - managed to use an extended thin tool through the engine to migrate it over to an edge and fingered it out from bottom!! Assume Ive learnt but then again!

So people would just say "F@ck it", put another one on and leave that one there, but the rattling would make them take it out?
