Driver Assistance Plus - Is it worth it?

Driver Assistance Plus - $1,700
•Active Driving Assistant
- Lane Departure Warning
- Frontal Collision Warning
- City Collision Mitigation
- Pedestrian Protection
•Active Blind Spot Detection
•Side and Top View Cameras
•Speed Limit Info

So my order is in, but AFAIK i'm still status 112 so I can still make changes, and i'm sort of regretting not adding this. It would only be $17/mo more in my lease payment, so i'm thinking why the hell not.

I currently have the Active Blind Spot and Side and Top View Cameras in my F10 and I do like the Blind Spot Detection, but barely ever use the side/top cameras.

I don't care much about the Speed Limit info. But then with the 4 things in Active Driving assistant just make it seem like you get soo much stuff for very little $.

My concern, is my Radar detector going to go nuts from all the active driving stuff? If the car is emitting radar wouldn't my detector detect it? Or is it some other kind of radar that it doesn't pick up. I don't get too many false signals driving around from other cars or anything. Escort 9500i if it matters.

Going to call in the morning to add it to my build if possible, so want to hear any reasons why you think its not worth $17 more.

Thanks

I consider the package a "nice to have" but I could live without it. The sensors won't trip up a newer radar detector so long as it is updated or newly released with software filtering out false triggers from the car's sensors. Newer Escorts and V1s should be fine with rare exceptions.

I look at it the exact same way. Its nice to have but I don't need any of it. Im just looking at it now as, I get all this stuff for 17/mo.

I got my 9500i in like '08, I dont think it can be updated. I know that was a feature when they released the 9500ix.

Appreciate the input.

No judgement here, but if you ever drive "just under" 0.08 BAC, these features are definitely worth it.

It may sound stupid but I was on the fence about DAP and its usefulness but I did want that little glovebox so I just added side and top view cameras independently (which are 100000% worth it by the way) . I don't wish I had any of the other features and I use the little glove box and side and top view cams every single day.

Yeah I use that little glove box everyday also. The side and top view cams not so much though. Only thing I found useful was the side view has the curb line so it helps a little bit.

I know that's what's pushing me to get it. I have it now and really like it. I think the orange triangle on the mirror could be brighter but the steering wheel vibration is perfect.

What's under that little flap under the radio behind the cup holders? Is that like an ash tray power outlet?

If it is it looks like I can just keep my sunglasses on top of that and I'm good.

One other thing to factor into your formula is the discount in insurance premium that your carrier would give you. It's probably best to phone them up and ask what the insurance premium cost delta would be between DAP and non-DAP, spread that over the expected ownership term of the car, yada yada.

Ohhh didn't think about that. Ok I think that makes my decision then.

Thanks guys!

I have the DAP on my car and my observations on the features are:

- Lane Departure Warning - Steering wheel vibration is very noticeable. Good if you're a nonattentive driver. I have it on the X5 as well and the M3 definitely vibrates stronger.

- Frontal Collision Warning - Worth the whole package. Will brake for you to minimize potential impact. The warning in the HUD and Dash is a bright bright red.

- City Collision Mitigation- Meh

- Pedestrian Protection - Meh

- Active Blind Spot Detection - The triangle in the side view mirror sucks for brightness but combined with vibrating steering wheel, helps avoid collisions.

- Side and Top View Cameras - Best part of package. No excuse to curb a wheel.

- Speed Limit Info - New radar detectors have this built in but it is convenient and pretty accurate (except) for construction zones.

my wife occasionally drives the car and thanks me every time for getting the drivers assistance package just because she can maneuver into tight spots and parallel park with ease. cameras everywhere = no curbed wheels. worth it.

that being said, she's a very good driver so i have nothing to worry about. the cameras and safety features truly make life behind the wheel easier. i wouldn't hesitate to tick that option box again.

I have it and never turns it on. The brake assist is on automatically every time you start the car and I turn that off too. Just get the surround cameras and save yourself 1k.

I just picked my car up on Monday and drove it back home 3.5 hours from the dealership. I'm coming from an E92 M3, and the driver's assist package is nothing short of awesome. Since it was late at night with shitty weather, I ended up using every single system on the way home. Well worth the price to me... find another spot for your sunglasses.

Thanks guys! I did add it on. I think I would've regretted not adding it down the road.

I passed on it. They're great options but I'd find myself turning half of them off so it wasn't worth the extra $1700 to me.
