In order to make the HK system work at it's optimum level, you need to mix and match the equalizer in both your phone (audio source) but more importantly the car.
In the settings you will find the EQ and from there you can change the sound, while music is playing, to make it come out much clearer. I am not a super audiophile, but the HK system is great for the price. I have it set up around my favorite bands, Soundgarden, Tool, and Deftones and the stereo absolutely rocks! Check EQ before you waste any other money. |

I screwed around with HK equalizer for days. For me, I've found it sounds good with the Logic 7 Surround OFF and slight adjustments to EQ, no more than 1/4 slider movement for any of them.
And, bias the Fader to the rear. Chris |

It made a big difference on my HK system in my M4, was an easy install, and IMO, well worth the price.
I still think it needs some sort of sub, and I am working with musicarnw on exactly what I am going to get, but the Bavsound Stage one is definitely worth it.

And to add, ideally one would never increase the sliders beyond 0 on an EQ since it introduces distortion (boosting frequencies). A lot of audiophiles will adjust everything down from zero, which reduces output, but doesn't introduce distortion. Now, I do recognize this is a car with external noises, etc., so living under this practice for automotive audio is a bit silly - just thought I'd share as a fun fact .

If you think HK is great, you should look into BavSound Stage 1 speaker replacement for your HK system. Reset your EQ once you get BavSound, with good balanced speakers you shouldn't mess with EQ. It should deliver clear vocal and instruments, without EQ intervention.
45% off + 10% until Dec 25th. Keto's write up: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1063804 HK hasn't made any spectacular speakers for a couple decades now. HK is way behind. If you read any car audiophile reviews, BMW's HK is dead last for luxury car OEM sound system. Even Acura's ELS system blow any BMW's HK system out of the water. The settings I posted were from another person on here. A few seem to have great results with those settings.

I doubt that he got that big a discount. They're having an anniversary sale with "up to 45% off", but the discount for the F80 system falls short of the max discount.

I paid $719 total for my Bavsound stage one system for my HK on my M4, plus shipping. That was with a 10% discount that I had to email them to get the code, and the holiday sale already discounted price. It was money well spent.

Whatever web contact they have on the website. It was pretty clear, IIRC.

$797 is about right though. I got mine which is only 7 speakers (standard) vs 14 speakers (HK), so it was $400 ish. You have double number of speakers so the price should double. If you have concerns, contact Cory at coryc@bavsound.com Last edited by JNoSol; 12-07-2014 at 10:38 PM.. |
