TAG Motorsports - SHOP LIFE SERIES II - A behind the scenes journal, inside look.

A few years back, we did a SHOP LIFE thread on some other forums, that showed the daily, and behind the scenes look at a lot of builds. We decided it was a great idea to bring it back. New and Improved, and also bring it to the M3/M4 community!!

With the Shop Life Series we hope to show you the building stages of not only big projects, but smaller tasks that come through the shop. See what goes into some of these installs, as well as some detailed photos of parts you have been considering. As well as some BTS content of our personal cars we are building here in the BMW world. Even if the car we are showing is not necessarily your specific model, we probably have the same part or service for your car. Don’t hesitate to inquire.

Feel free to ask any questions, about the builds, or parts you see used. This is definitely a way we want to interact with our past, present, and future customers more. A lot of our team will be chiming in as well.

Some of our coolest projects here at TAG aren’t the crazy builds. Well some of our crazy builds, aren’t a pile full of parts, with an expensive invoice. Sometimes it’s just a casual conversation and somebody says, “wouldn’t it be cool, if we did _________ to _________ ??” And everybody is excited at doing something a little bit out of the box.

This i3 is a great example of it. It’s the TAG daily commuter. Yes, we care about the environment. And yes, we know this car is “cute”, but we never shy away from the challenge of turning “cute” into cool, or sexy. As with most of our TAG builds, HRE wheels came up in the discussion. HRE 309 wheels were chosen, finished in Satin Black with Electric Blue Lips and Gloss Black Hardware. These are some of the slimmest wheels on a car. So you have to go custom built. But our friends over at HRE are always up for any task, we throw at them. I’m sure they got a few chuckles and some fun out of this order.

To compliment the new 20” wheels we lowered the i3 with H&R Lowering springs. And to give the car a more aggressive look, matching the new sexy shoes and stance, we painted the grilled Black. There you have it! It doesn’t take much to turn “Cute” into “Cool”. Just a little out of the box thinking, and good choices.

We had a chance to get some wheels on the scales with and without tires this week. And we thought it would be a great opportunity to show some of the weight savings with these HRE Wheels in one of their new finishes, which we thing will be very popular, as it looks amazing.

HRE R101LW (Lightweight) in Brushed Champagne Finish (new finish from HRE).*

19x8.5 - 16.8lbs
20x11 - 19.2lbs

Tire Sizes - Pirelli Trofeo R
235/35/19
295/35/20*

Wheel & Tire weigh combined:*
Front: 39.2 lbs
Rear: 50.0 lbs

This particular set is going on a Mclaren 570s. But as you know this is a hit for the M3/M4 platform, as seen on a few of our builds, including our current TAG M3 shop car.

Toe. The eccentric nut (the one with the little red dot next to it) is what you use to adjust camber. Although, toe and camber adjustment does affect the other.
