Share your most expensive warranty repair

my warranty will expire in a year so I am debating to get extended warranty or not. Can you all list the most expensive repairs that you have under the 4 years warranty? I know most of the f8x are damn reliable.

I did a quick search and did not see any coverage on this so I hope I am not duplicated on the topic.

Interesting question. Subscribed.

2015 M4 - 15,600 miles. $0 on warranty repairs. I bought the lease out and decided not to get an extended warranty.

Thinking about extending my warranty as well. Still have about a year and a half on the factory warranty. Would love to hear what others have to say.

Replacement of a FEM Module at ~9,000 miles. The cost, if not covered under warranty, would've been ~$1,300. I also blew out a tire and bent a rim on these less than ideal roads in Atlanta. The cost for that repair not covered under warranty was $1,800, IIRC.

While I believe these cars have proven to be quite reliable since released in 2014, when something goes wrong it usually isn't cheap. That's not specific to this particular car but any European - especially luxury/performance - car will not be inexpensive to repair.

I've had my 2015 M4 since Nov 2014, and I have started thinking whether to get an extended warranty as well. When I had my E93 M3 I got one and never drove it enough, but a friend enjoyed having it once I sold him the car with plenty extended warranty left.

My F83 M4 only has 10200 miles in almost 4 years and has been very reliable as it should be given the miles it has. Still would like to extend it for another 3+ years if possible. Will go by the dealer this week to check and see what they are offering in terms of price and options.

Only oil changes thus far (no cost), and software updates (no cost). Because the F83 M4 never came with the trunk pass through as it was meant to, BMW sent me a $750 check. First BMW that has made me money.

Extended my warranty to 100K miles on my 2015 when I bought it...so far from the previous owner it's only had a trunk locking module replaced and one of the front cameras was replaced I guess it stopped working.

I think it just comes down to peace of mind - for the cost built into my financing, it just made sense to just tack it on and not have to worry about it.

I also got a really good deal on it as the 2nd owner, and the first took all the depreciation - so considering everything, I felt I got a good deal and am happy I have it for down the road if needed.

My '15 F83 was about to run out of warranty (49k miles), and I extended to 100k as simple insurance. While the odds are that I'll lose money on the deal, this is an M4, not an Accord - there are multiple things that can break and cost thousands. If that happens, I'd rather just hand my keys to the dealer and not have to worry about it.

Cheers

Then they determined it was a coolant leak into the cylinders. Decision from BMW NA was to replace the engine. I've had no other issues since:

Thanks i read the full story.. sounded like a nightmare to me ..

So Beside manufacture defect, any idea if its in relation to anything else? Lot of us track the f8x so i would not think that is the reason I hope?

The dealership and BMW hadn't seen any other cases of it. BMW had the dealership send it to Germany so they could inspect it further

I'd say get extended warranty but I honestly don't think 90% these cars will have major repair bills like engine, transmission, or turbos.

If you are the type of person that pays attention to your cars changes and notice the little things your warranty will pay for it self usually. You also have to know what to say to the dealer for the issue to be covered. I've had extended warranty on my Audi and BMW's and they have all payed for themselves. Both my current bmw have Extended Platinum warranties.

2011 550i all of the stuff fixed I would have probably lived with and never fixed and kept driving but $5,800 warranty payed for. Valve seals ( small puff smoke under hard acceleration), Driver seat heater bottom section stop heating, rear sunshade would get stuck, front control and torsion arms creaked on rough roads at slow speeds, blower motor speeds wouldn't go to full high , secondary water pump, driver rear comfort access (didn't know it was bad), all engine/trans motor mounts. Somewhere between $10,000/15,000 dollars in repairs maybe higher $$$.

2015 bmw m4 I pre purchased the $4,800 platinum warranty still under factory warranty too might be why Lower cost then the 550i and there is few little programming bugs that need updates but I'm not pushing it now. Since factory warranty is till Nov 2019. But I have not had any repairs to the m4 yet as I'm gonna ride it out and make a list before November 2019

I will point out since I work in the automotive industry but I'm no expert older bmw control arms would last well above 80/100k (stiffer/solid rubber bushing before run flats) now they are easily shot between 60/90k miles these days there alone is $2,000 to 3,800 dollar repair depending on parts labor and how many of the bushings are bad. Yes you can get cheaper with Indy or if you do it yourself but I wanna point out if you want bmw to do it and you have your extended platinum warranty that's half of the warranty paid for.

A/C units start having problems between 75k and 100k not all but some I can easily see a decline in performance and output on most cars even loss r134 in that time frame.

Most any vehicle I drive I can find something wrong if I have enough time to drive it and a lot people over look or let it go cause they don't wanna pay for it and I can tell you if warranty covers it or not.

If you get the right warranty it's easy to say what's not covered.....belts, hoses, gaskets, shocks, brakes everything else is a yes

Where to you purchase extended warranty? I spoke to the dealer near me and they told me it is not available.

Once I purchased my car, GEICO (my insurance agency) automatically put their MBI insurance in with my premium quote. I basically pay an extra $12 a month for my auto insurance and get a 7 year or 100K mile warranty ($250 deductible)...https://www.geico.com/auto-insurance...own-insurance/

I just had this issue repaired as well, along with the seat M logos replaced due to loud buzzing. Outside of that, my 2016 has 23k miles and no other issues.

Nothing so far in almost 3 years. But I will get the extended warranty nevertheless, you never know and it certainly doesn't hurt if I sell the car one day.
