Jerky when decelerating from 3rd to 2nd - DCT

So my 2017 F80 M3 Competition package with DCT is pretty jerky when it decelerates from 3rd to 2nd gear. (automatic mode)

My setting is "efficient (engine), comfort (chassis), Comfort (steering)" as daily drive (automatic). I only switch to manual mode when I'm on the highway.

So my story is, I get this very uncomfortable feeling when the gear switches from 3rd to 2nd gears whenever the car comes to a stop light or w/e the decelerating situation is.. Car literally jerks too hard.. But not always!

Does anyone experience the same situation as i do?

I've read few posts about the car being jerky driving in low gears but never saw the threads about jerky when decelerating.

Please share any thoughts!!

Thanks in advance!

How are you decelerating? Gradually easing off or taking foot off gas?

Interesting, I only felt that and it was very slight, when the car was cold in efficient mode it felt like the car was downshifting too late (low rpm range); after warming it did not jerk.

I do both.
The car jerks when i gradually easing off (just tiny bit of pressure on the brake) and taking foot off the gas and let it do its own thing...

Any ideas!?

Mine happens when in D2 and D3, it downshifts early and triggers the engine brake which cause the issue.

I don't want to dismiss a potential issue, but the DCT in auto definitely has a tendency to be a bit jerky particularly if not used to it. It can be particularly noticeable in stop and go traffic. As others suggested it can sometimes downshift early.

I came from an Audi DSG and the DCT still took some getting used to. Over time I've been able to modulate it better but it is difficult to explain - more of a feel. Mostly I try to avoid doing something that I've learned the DCT won't respond well to but sometimes it is unavoidable. Is this your first DCT? If so it might get better over time as you get used to it.

I don't drive in auto mode either. Normally I drive in S3, throttle sports plus, suspension sports, steering sports, MDM.

although in traffic auto in d2 mode has been pretty good for me. it is not a conventional automatic, and not as smooth shifting.

which mode are you in for the dct logic? d1?

also, do you only notice the jerkiness after a heavy throttle? if you are noticing the auto up shifting in anything higher than 3.5k rpms then on the slow down you will also be experiencing the logic down shifting at >3.5k rpms.

when i'm in s3 the first gear jerks, but that is normal since i usually step on the gas to hard. When I put it in m1 which is the settings of the OP i never felt it jerk.

Yes, This is my first DCT and i was not expecting this jerkiness feeling. The car shifts smooth when it accelerates but downshifts are pain in the ass. Even when i'm on the manual mode it tends to downshifts automatically when i'm braking. Is this normal too? I'm pretty sure it does this to protect the transmission and engine?

You don't feel any jerkiness even when you decelerates?
Try Manual mode and let it decelerates itself.

My daily drive mode is Efficient & And all comfort w/ D1 mode.
Still tends to jerk from 3rd -> 2nd (more like an engine brake feeling)

yes because your revs are falling too low and the car would stall if it didn't downshift (like a manual) - if you grew up with a manual none of it should seem odd; if not, yeah it's nothing like a planetary gear 'box with a torque converter.

My wife has it set up full auto all settings on wuss and it's never jerky for her as I'd hear about it (I've got a 2015 with the old jerky software) so I think you just have to play with settings.

I like when the car is a vicious temperamental bitch - it's at least a bit of personality showing through.

Every day I ask, "ok honey, are you gonna be nice today?" But she never is.

it's what she do.

The car takes time to get used to your driving style. Same thing happened to me try driving on Mode 2 shift sequence. For me it took like a week or 2 for the car to downshift smoothly without the jerking..

I'm trying out MDM mode/Shift D2/Efficient and comfort mode all the way.

I currently have 3K mileages on the clock. still need some time to get used to? Maybe but Maybe not? lol

By the way, I've put MSR intake including chargepipes at like.. 2K miles on the car. Maybe Intakes are causing jerkiness??

I dont know how you drive. But for me for like 200-400 miles before my break-in i experienced the downshift lag/jerk but it went away.

you're driving in MDM and modding your intake ... but care about jerkiness?

I do get the 3-2 gear downshift jerks occasionally when the car is on those settings:
Efficient throttle, D1 and the AIR CONDITIONING ON!

During the good weather (winter months here in the UAE) when I was not using the AC I forgot all about this jerking but now since the temperatures started to creep up and using the AC is a must it started to happen again.

I also felt it is related to how hard I'm applying the brakes, it tends to happen only when the brake force is not very hard, and this why I tend to try and avoid it by braking a "bit" hard when coming to a stop.

Thats exactly what I have on m1. When i just want to take it easy I put that on, but it never jerks.

edit: i stand corrected i actually tried this today and i felt it jerk a little bit, but i usually only go from 3rd to 2nd if im stopping at the light and i usually press on my breaks i never let the gear just slow down, that is why i have never noticed it.

Get the GTS dct coding and that should help with the jerking and downshifting...
