Autocar Drives the Cayman GTS...Compares to M3

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com

Go to 8:00 mark to hear Sutcliffe's remarks about the M3 compared to the GTS tested....obviously each car has a different focus, but his comparison is interesting.

No surprise. The new Cayman is absolutely gorgeous.

I agree with you in that every car has a different focus. I think the F8x is much more refined than the Cayman. I'm sure the Cayman is a hell of a lot of fun to drive, but just the comfort and diversity of the M3/4 is the kicker for me.

better comparo would be when pajun comes out next yr, since it can actually carry 4 people.
i do luv cayman.. but the price just isnt in the same ballpark.. everything is an optional extra and lease rates suck balls.
but to he fair if i was single, i would probably get cayman s over m3,4.. the car reminds me of good old s2000.. just exciting at any speed..

Great find. Cayman GTS is a great performing car, no doubt.

Personally, I don't like the way it looks. The front end is very nice and aggressive. But as you transition to the rear, the fenders and lights look kinda out of place. Looks like 911's retarded cousin.

I never drove the GTS. I love my S version. Will lose to the M4 in practicality. I do like all the buttons and the layout in the Porsche.

Is there a BMW M that Steve Sutcliffe doesn't put down?

To be fair, he absolutely loves the E30 and E46. Anything after that, not so much.

Yeah, because if he didn't. Every other auto journalist wouldn't think he is a damn fool.

Yea the rear of the car is just kind of bland if I were to buy one I would keep the tail up at all times just to help with the looks. The blue and silver wheels combo in this video does not help either. I really despise those wheels

Cayman GTS is a great weekend car and driver/enthusiast car yes it might beat the M4 there but the M4 is much more practical as a DD it can hold 4 and has a trunk not to mention the total cost of the M4 w/comparative options + maintenance is much less than the Porsche

M4 up against a Cayman GTS? Are you mad? Not a chance. I'm with Steve. I wouldn't give the f82 a second look. The Porsche is on a totally different level. It gets that emotional and visceral response from reviewers, unlike the f80. Which gets the typical "yeah, great, they've done a terrific job ... What are we driving tomorrow?" Sort of review.

The engine sound and exhaust on the Cayman alone are worth the price of admission. The rest is pure gravy! No one will be confusing that bad boy for a Prius. Lol!

Loves me a comfortable M3. Such comfort. So diverse. Most daily driver!

It seems to me that this guy loves any car, but not BMW.
Every time i see his reviews, i always hear something negative about new M3/M4.
Moreover Steve is not credible for me because in M's review he was saying that the car is "absolutely stunning; steering is perfect". In the next video, he was like "New M3/M4's steering is not so good". I can't get it, why you say smth about car and then claim the opposite, going against your own words...

Even with the track setup I had on my E92, it was still "comfortable". I like that.

I agree with you entirely. In fact, I find him the most difficult of the British reviewers to watch or read. He consistently contradicts himself, and makes broad generalizations which often are not true. I tend to watch his reviews just to see the footage, but try and avoid listening to his ramblings.

I do agree with the rear end being similar to the beetle, but it grows on you after a while.

He also really likes the BMW 1M, raves about it actually. Steve just happens to not like some of the recent BMW models, he isn't the first.

well, thought my next car was going to be the F80 M3 but starting to lean away from this decision.

main reason is I am more likely to go to gas friendly practical daily driver and get weekend sports car like I used to have.

if I could only have a single daily driver it would have to be the F80 M3 or Audi S4.

I am now leanings towards Cayman GTS or a GTR.
