on the day that I need to drop my car off at log in out, I am leaving Rothenburg. I hear often it takes much longer than google maps, and I don't want to miss the deadline to return it, as we have our flight back at 6.30AM next day. We are staying that night right next to the airport. I havent yet requested a drop off time, but if i can get someone experience driving from rothenburg to munich that would be helpful to know how long it would take. Google maps says anywhere between 2 hours 15mins - 3 hours typically.

Depends on what speed you want to drive

We were pretty consistently ~10-15min quicker than Google Maps (scale up with distance obviously).

I think that drive will take you 3 hours absolute maximum - I would say 2h30m. We did not drive that exact route, but a similar one.

Thank you!

As everyone else I would like to get the car washed before returning it. Is there a particular car wash that the forum members use when doing ED and returning at the log in and out? Is it automatic or a self wash?

There is a gas station right at one of the entrances of the airport and they have automated and self wash. The self wash was 2 euros (takes coins only) and the automated one I don't know as it closed before I was able to get there. If you do a search for Munich car wash in this forum, it should pop up with the name and location.

Btw the drop off in Munich has a car wash option for 40 euro I believe.

AGIP, the gas station near the airport has self serve options.

I'm waiting for the dealer to get back to me for ED confirmation for either 9/19 or 9/20 and said there will be a packet mailed to me. I feel like this should have been sent long ago. In everyone's experience should I already be scheduled by now? I requested this over 75 days ago and thought it would be enough time.

Trip is already planned and booked for Munich but if I don't get my car at this time I might just ask for a refund on my deposit . Looking for the once in a lifetime experience here.

I did an August ed and was on a compressed timeline due to how the allocations come out. Have you filed out the purchase order specific to ED? This must be submitted no less than 30 days before delivery. There are a couple things you sign about exporting the vehicle within so many days and winter tire restrictions during some months if a recall. I think I didn't get a confirmation email until about a month out. The welcome packet came about a week after that.

Here is the special sales contact info.

Once you submit the dates you want to do delivery on and your drop off dates, the CA should send that to BMW and get you a confirmed date. Then they will send a set of forms, once you sign those and send it back, it goes to BMW NA ED department in NJ. Then you get an email with a confirmation. That email is what makes everything final (not the build, but the delivery)

You still have time but you definitely need to get that done

Do you have a production number yet?

For me once I got my own production number for ED, I received my packet of information with special hotels, luggage tags, etc.

But the important piece of paper is the documents you sign and send back , and the confirmation email. I hear some dealerships do this about a month in advance, I had mine don't over 75 days before delivery. This is because I needed that confirmed email before I booked air tickets. Until that email, BMW has committed to deliver your car that day

Yup, I remember around 40€ for their hand wash service. I'm planning to use them again this fall.

@madbeamer @bimmerguydc
Appreciate the insight, info, and advice. I am about 45 days out and was informed about a packet and email and very well could be the timing. I was told these dates are hard to lock in due to the high demand around Oktoberfest but The ED dates were submitted about 70 days in advance and hopefully it works out for a 9/20 delivery date. Also doing PCD once it arrives to the states.

Thanks again.

Not sure how good the wash is as I haven't taken delivery yet, but I paid for it as well. It better be good for $45 USD

Edit: Oh, and a general reminder for all doing ED - don't do as I did and mistime your final gas fill up so poorly that you turn the car in with 3/4 tank! It will not be waiting for you on the other side.

How much gas are you supposed to leave with it?

As little as possible. They will remove it before shipping. I ended up with half a tank wasted.

Yep, basically just enough for them to get it on/off the truck, and then on/off the RORO...

Yes, was very good. Dealer commented how clean it was when it was re-delivered. Granted, it could've received a wash or something at the VPC -- it was there a few days to replace a scuffed wheel - but I doubt it.

The gals name at LogInOut was Katharine...very helpful and accommodating.

Cheers,

During transport, after I dropped it off. There was no damage reported on my drop off sheet.

So what happens if we damage it while driving it in Europe, like wheel damage, something a bit above the lease tolerance? Do they still fix it up if you report it?

From my understand what is wear-n-tear is a bit nebulous on ED's now. I've heard that curb rash, scrapes, small door dings, etc are no longer fixed, but I've seen cases where they have been. Not real objective in my opinion.

If you do get whacked while in EU, you're covered through the Allianz insurance for the big stuff. Just remember to notate any issues when you drop off the car in Europe. You'll need to make sure it's documented so it can be addressed at the VPC once it gets stateside.

Cheers,
