In my area the front clip is $1500 and the CFRP will run you another $400. So about $1900 in for the protection I would want. So the question is it worth $1900? That highly depends IMO on how much your OCDness over a few chips is worth to you. I can say with a lot of history selling M cars that the clear-bra won't raise the resale value so its all about if you can stomach minor imperfections throughout ownership.
I agree. Now, my last M3 was Jerez black, and it could have used xpel or something, but I didn't really know about it. I have to admit the paint chips bugged the heck out of me on that car. The imperfections stood out like crazy. But the one ding I got wouldn't have been prevented anyhow - it was on the top about an inch from the back edge. I have no idea how it happened, but without having the entire roof covered it wouldn't have made a difference. Anyhow, I've gone with a much lighter car this time around - opposite spectrums - SSII. I'm not so concerned. I do want to make the maintenance easier, which is why I went with Ceramic Pro. I got the wheels coated as well. Hoping that will make life easier.

Damn dude, you've been spending some time in the car. I'm at about 650 miles now. I have it in the shop getting a few layers of Ceramic Pro applied. Decided to skip the XPEL.
Well I've done two road trips in it already haha. The nearest big city to me is 150 miles away

Sweet. I live in New Orleans about 5 miles from my office. But I find reasons to hit the road. I volunteer to make store runs much more often nowadays.

Anyone know if those of us who can't take delivery with a car in the states can still register it?

My insurance company is going to cancel me within 21 days of my contract being signed if the dealer doesn't register the car.

I don't believe so, but I'd call your insurance company and explain the situation to them. They should give you some kind of alternative path forward.

I was considering doing CQuartz over a XPEL. How did you come to decide on ceramic pro? Did you consider other coatings?

Haha nice!! I was laughing as I drove away from the dealership now that I can really open up the car. It's an absolute blast

our cars were built on about the same schedule. Do you know whether yours has the rear differential problem? I don't have an answer yet, though I suspect it will.

I just got the service done yesterday, and even called them a few days before and wasn't told anything about it. So as of now I'm not going to worry about it. However with that being said, I wouldn't be surprised if all of the cars built during the time end up getting it replaced. I'd rather know about it early and have it done before something actually breaks as it's 150 miles to the dealership for me.

Will BMW email us if our car needs the work done or do we have to keep checking?

Right now it's just a delivery stop, and not a recall. Once there's a fix they will issue a TSB that describes the remedy. We'll have to see whether or not this ends up being a full-on recall, or just a fix for owners who complain of noise.

For now, I'd just drive it 'til the wheels fall off.

Cool. My dealer says I'm unaffected, but we'll see.... For now, I'm not going to let it concern me!

Those are words to live by. Getting the tint right now and then I'll follow your guidance!

The guy I trust to do my detail recommended it, so I went with it. I decided against XPEL because I think BMW does a fine job with paint and don't think it's necessary for my Silverstone. Also, if I was going to do XPEL, I'd want the entire car done, and seems to me I'm better off just dealing with dings if and when they come up if they really bother me. If my car was black (like my last jerez black M3), I'd probably do it because the imperfections are so obvious in those dark colors. Anyhow, here are a few pics with my ceramic pro applied:

My car got to the VPC in late June, sat there until mid July before being sent to the PC where it now sits with no updates when I reach out to my CA or Genius. 40 days since it got off the ship in Charleston.

Lame.

Mine's been stuck there since 7/10. Work order for the diff was opened on 7/22, but there's no estimate on when it actually may be fixed.

Nope. She just arrived via boat in Long Beach today. She is getting delivered to my front door, so hopefully by the end of the week. I am excited but expecting something to delay it further. My production date was 31 May.
