New M3 Owner, ED, and some smoke
Hallo Everyone,
Just got back a few days ago from my first ED, and I wanted to share a few pics and reintroduce myself. Still have to get my film developed so for now, they are just crappy iPhone pictures. ED was an amazing experience, and my wife and I had a great time in Germany/Austria. Car was a joy to drive on the German roads! My previous car was a modified e82 135i (N54). Compared to the 135i, the M3 definitely feels a bit tighter, more visceral, has some extra "theater", and it performs very well right out of the box. It also feels bigger, which is nice from a practicality standpoint, but that M3 turning radius will take some adjustment. The motor characteristic is more NA than the N54, and it feels just as smooth and even more responsive. According to my Genius it was the first Smoked Topaz M3 he has seen delivered at the Welt, although I know there are a few others on the forum. Picked the color after only seeing a swatch at the dealer and couldn't be more pleased. Despite the inevitable poop jokes, I love brown cars. It has a great mix of purple-oxblood type color and brown. The color also has some blue-grey and smokey type undertones. It's also one of the most dynamic colors I've ever seen in person, and the camera can't capture the real depth. Smoked Topaz, Carbonstructure, 6MT, Competition, Executive, Power shades. *A weird note on MY18 cars (or at least mine), there is no more headlight washers and no aux port. The aux port was majorly disappointing since I prepped my old iPod for our drives with playlists. The second USB is also gone.

Wow, I don't think I've ever seen a ST on the forum ... maybe once from a swiss dude ... anyway you're definitely in the minority so you need to go big with some pics!
In that second pic you can definitely see the special paint weirdness ... my moonstone has that too ... more pics! waiting. |

I picked up mine last month and also noticed the lack of headlight washers, only one USB port and no aux. Of those, I'll miss the headlight washer the most given my winter pass driving in MT-ID-WA.
More pics please! |

That color is very unique, very cool!
That is really odd about the headlight washers. Exec package calls out specifically that there are headlight washers (in NA at least). I have seen several 2018 M3's and some have them and some don't, can't find a pattern though for why some would have and others don't. |

Very nice - congratulations! Cool build and MT as well.
Strange about the lack of aux and headlight washers - I had not heard that before. I suppose the aux jack might have been ditched because between USB, Bluetooth and WiFi, the aux is not used very much anymore. It's hard to rationalize the lack of headlight washers.

Thanks for the comments!
One other note about the MY18 that is a bummer. The turn signal stalk isn't BMW style anymore. You have to actually click it up and down and it stays in place. Other than a few little things I mentioned, the car was just amazing. It goes from 26MPG with my wife sleeping in the passenger seat at 110MPG on the autobahn, to raucous, raw, and burbly on the track. WOT was incredible in tunnels! Hopefully will do a proper ED thread with some good pics in a few days. By the time the car arrives in the US, it will be time for winter tires! Tim

Odd color as it flips in direct sunlight. Under fluorescent lighting it's wonderful. Controversial color it is. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Quite the leap from a 135. I know the feeling. Enjoy.
