Current insurance premiums...?

Just curious to see if I'm being punished due to my area, which isn't even bad, or if this is a trend.
I currently have a 430d M Sport and I've been hit with a £150 price hike on my renewal to £680!
I'm very close to pulling the trigger on a M3 or M4, but on Compare the Market I can't get any quotes lower than £1100! This is beyond outrageous.
I'm 37, 6 years NCB (had to start again due to a company car for a while), no accidents, no points, 9000 miles per year, nothing out of the ordinary. But yea, £1100 premium at my age is ludicrous. I'm reading threads from 2014/15 from people being quoted around £400 but I assume that was before the M4 accumulated a history of insurance claims but still, just want to see if this is consistent with what others are being quoted today.

Cheers

A few have mentioned the pricing going up, I'm dreading my renewal in March next year.

They always try to get you on renewal. I was insuring few months ago and the prices seemed the same as 2 years ago. People can still insure it for £400 with the right postcode.

My first year was £300. Second year renewal was around £400.

I'm 37 with 9 years NCD.

My renewal quotes varied from £1300 to £420. There's no alternative to shopping around and just because one insurer was cheap last year it doesn't follow they will be cheap this year. They all assess their books constantly and encourage or dissuade demographics as appropriate.

You could also look to have a secondary insurance policy for your excess. Then choose a higher excess to reduce the premium.

Agreed, I upped my excess to £500 which took nearly £200 off my lowest quote then got £500 excess insurance from ALA for £57. No brainer!

Good news, certainly better than the other poster that was priced out of his car IIRC.

It most certainly pays to shop around. Just got my new toy yesterday after parting with my 335d X-Drive last week. I was initially worried, as my insurer wouldn't even cover the new one. 10 minutes later, LV, fully comp with PNCB, £340! Winner! The 335d last time around was £350...

Just resurrecting my own old thread here.

It took me a while but I got a M4 last week, worst week ever to buy a car!

I managed to tweak enough things (named drivers etc) and got the premium to an absolute low of £800 with my existing provider Elephant, I'm half way through a policy so it wasn't cost effective to pay £50 to exit. I just curiously tried LV as some folk suggested and they've just quoted me £790 on the M4 Convertible CP. That for a 37y/o, no points or claims, 6 years NCB, 9000 miles.

Curious to hear from others who have been quoted well from other providers.

Edit: Aviva just quoted me £640 which is a step in the right direction, gives me some hope for renewal time in October!

Hi
New to the group but looking for an M3 CP. I’m 40+. 19 years NCB, no points etc and my cheapest quote is £1250 (garaged and a nice area).

I changed from an M4 non comp pack to an M4 comp pack in January. Last years premium which commenced on the 22nd. Nov 2017 was circa £600. I'm with LV and when I changed the policy to the M4 Comp Pack I had to pay an additional £269. This was for the remaining 9 months so I'm curious to see what I'll be asked to pay at policy renewal time.

My renewal was £750 but then again I live in the hood, so it's not that bad but has risen over the last 2 years from £600.

One agent from Elephant tried justifying the high prices by saying "we factor in someone insuring a car they've just bought, because you've got no history with the car". I took pleasure from slapping them down with "so how does that BS fit in with you raising my premium on renewal last year by £50, after bearing witness to my 1 years history with the car, and a further 1 years NCB which clearly means nothing to anyone any more." These agents don't care enough about their jobs to be bothered, but it felt good to dismiss almost everything they put on the table as justification for high premiums.

But yea I must have received around 150+ quotes using different variables, tweaking this n that, and the convertible is hugely more expensive to insure over the coupe, and the comp pack adds a canny premium too. I never expected cheap insurance on this car but at 37 with a clean history, I expected better tbh.

also re-insure right at the end of a month as they need to meet targets. Quotes at the start of a month are usually higher than the end. Oh and FYI, the insurance person will probably be looking at your street on google street maps whilst you do a live quote, one agent even asked me which house was mine as the number wasn't easy to read!!! wtf?

Usually adding a wife or partner can drop about £50 off a quote. I wouldn't let my wife near my car anyway, but strangely enough, the M4's I've had are the only cars which hike the premium for adding her. All of my mitsubishi evo's etc were cheaper. One thing tho, its easy enough to 'tweak' the info to try get a cheaper quote but be warned everything you state now is literally recorded, so make sure you are stating facts, and one last thing, go check your credit score and you'll see that the insurance co does a search there too most of the time.

They will if you're paying monthly, they then charge you another 10-20% in interest.

Best to pay up front.
