ACS springs are great but I got mine fitted by Rossiters on my old M5, it's worth the trip for peace of mind.

The RS kit is also very impressive.

If so, it deffo is your top mount plate bearing. Usually damaged during installation due to over torque and not using BMW specification.

I had a 1000 other issues with my drop but I wont go on about it here, but basically all down to poor installation.

Mine was with ACS springs and I know of at least three other M3 having had identical issues to the above link.

Also would make hideous noises over bumps and when driving slow.
Thanks for the input Jim. This could well be the issue as I know for certain no torque wrench was used on the initial installation.
That link you posted won't work for me though, is it relevant? If so please could you try again. It just says no content when I click it.

Thanks

managed to get the link working now (deleted the first "H" in the link). that's different to mine. Funnily enough i have had that exact problem and after replacing the steering rack under warranty which didn't fix it, they replaced the drivers side wheel bearing and that did the trick.

my noise isn't activated by steering although sounds similar. it will do it with no steering input going up and down a dropped curb/over a manhole cover etc.. basically any tiny bump in a straight line or turning will make it creak. ill set up my go pro and try and capture it although ill probably fail miserably.

Update - problem solved.
After much prodding, poking and head scratching it turned out to be the noise was coming from the "cup like seat" that the bottom of the front shocks sit in. The bolt wasn't tight enough and the shock was shifting in the seat where it connects to the hub.

It's alloy and the mechanic has bent one in the past by over tightening so eased off on the torque. This time he undid it, we moved the steering wheel lock to lock a few times then did it up tight.

And the noise has gone

Here's a video i made showing the noise, the second half was taken after it was fixed. Note that the noise wasn't just steering related it did it when driving straight on bumpy roads but on the ramp the only way to replicate it was steering lock to lock.

No worries. It was doing my head in so had to get to the bottom of it.
I don't know the torque. The garage I went to were more of an "eyeball it" kind of place lol.
If anyone knows the correct torque or how to find out I'd be very interested to know.

This post is great thanks. I have exactly the same problem after MPHAS was fitted.

I got a 24hr subscription to bmwtis to find out the info.

When I loosened mine the noise disappeared but when retightened and torqued to 80nm it came back. We went to 95nm but no joy.

Anyway, correct torque is 56nm and Bmw recommends a new bolt every time.

I will get my bolts tomorrow and try it. Hopefully it sorts it.

Hope the info was of use! I have some of the other torque info too if anyone wants it.

I've the same problem with MPHAS!

I did see this post at bmw, they tightened the bolt but the noise continues.
The noise is exactly the same as that of the video.
Anyone help me.
I'm desperate.

Could be a different bolt causing the issue. I know someone else with the exact same issue but it was his top mounts that were misaligned and under torqued. The noise resonates down the shock and sounded like it was coming from the pinch bolt in my vid but was a red herring.

You may have to check the whole installation to find it I'm afraid.

I’ll have to try it too. I retorqued the pinch bolt and it went away for a few days. Now it’s back so must be something else.

I’m also getting some resonance, like a wheel bearing has failed, with the MPHAS. I wonder could it be a poor install or some other issue. PITA!

I had a wheel bearing go at 10k miles. Sound was the same as with the recent suspension issue. so annoying that so many things result in the same noise.

Mine only does it during parking lot maneuvers or just moving at a slower speed to where I can hear it since other parts of the car are quiet(er).

So what exactly did you guys do? Loosen that bolt and retighten it? Thanks.

Mine was fixed by simply lose I g and retightening but it seems there are a few potential causes resulting in the same noise. Give this option a go and see if it helps. Nothing to lose and all that. Good luck and report back on your results.

Went down this route and everything is OK now. Thanks to Kermit for the bolts and GSR Glasgow for the work.

Thank you! Mine ended up being that same nut! They loosened it, and tighten it back up under load and mine is finally silent!

Thank god! And thank you Jimbooo
