I think they emit a lot more light.

Light patterns are fixed - they aren't going to throw light further, higher, or wider.

The intensity of that light at a given difference may be changed though; however, modern xenons are already quite intense - to the point of blinding oncoming traffic if you are cresting a hill or otherwise directly beaming low beams into someone's windshield.

Don't get LEDs because you think they are going to be like driving around in the daytime. You already get an amazing lighting performance with xenons.

This is a very objective response. I agree completely!

So why does BMW charge $1900 for this when Audi charges $1400 (dad's new S6 only cost him $1400 for full LED). I hate paying more for the same thing

Firstly, it's a free market. Secondly, it's not "the same thing". Just because they're both LED systems doesn't make them equal.

Where did you see these lights in action? Outside at night or inside at the auto show. I ask because I wonder if in a real world situation where the car is outside at night could anyone be able to tell if just the top half is lit up. Theses are super bright lights and I imagine that the light output is so great that a person staring at the beam will not be able to discern a difference between the top and bottom bulb/projector location since they will be looking at a bright light. But I have not seen them in person so I could be wrong.

I've seen them in the real world, and you're right, it's difficult to see only the top half.

I don't think the 3 gets this "intelligent" system with the camera. It's adaptive (steering), but does not have the full capability shown in the video. My '12 ML has its intelligent lights 'dumbed down' for the US, as well.

Make sure you get it coded in order to take advantage of that tech. It won't come like that from the factory. Many of those features are disabled.

Honestly as gee-whiz as that vid is, it does nothing for me. Am I alone on this?

Traffic detecting cameras etc just seems like too much and unnecessary IMO

I would never think to spend 2k on that when standard xenon performance is so good..

Of course, no disrespect to anyone who chooses this option.

You're not alone, especially when the xenons can do the same thing.

Interesting i did not know that. I'll wait till I get the car and see what all it does then go from there

We figured out how to code the disabled portions a few weeks ago, so there are F30/F32 guys now running the disabled features.

I will need to read up on how to code the F series when I get the car. Looks complicated. And it seems it is taboo to get a token...

No US cars will get the full capability because our regulations prohibit those "adaptive" functions. Audi ran into the same trouble with the LED system they have on the A8.

It's actually REALLY easy. Our resident coders can code a car in 5-10 minutes depending on which options you want.
