Yes, you will be fine/ok.

If anyone needs the screw sets, let me know. Bought them but didn't end up needing them. We can work something out..

Besides these screenshots, is their something we can show our SA to prove what the correct oil is for our Diffs?

So... when performing the first service(or any oil change) check by your car's VIN to see which oil drain plug/screw you have. Always replaced the crush ring gasket. But IF you have the early design... replace the screw/plug too.

Very interesting. Do you know how we can use our VIN to check if the oil pan is Alu/Mag vs steel, or is this something only the dealer can do? I just had my run-in service, and they didn't change my drain plug.

I would go old school tech and use a simple magnet on the oil pan.

But yes, when you look up the part on RealOEM.com you will see an "AL" next to the screw/drain plug metric size. AL = Aluminum. The Alu bolt is also much larger than the metal one. 16mm's vs 12mm's.

I just had mine done today and was the same...except my oil was 365-946 (still says LL-01), and they put in SAF-XJ in the diff...asked them to look into the MSP/A diff fluid and was told that they called BMW NA as system told the SAF-XJ and they were told it doesn't matter which one is used - identical or nearly identical specs...dunno if I believe them.

Just had my 2,000 km service done today for my M4 (Jan 2015 production).

They replaced the following:
83-22-9-415-961 : 20 units (SAF - XJ + FM)
11-42-7-854-445
83-21-2-296-489: 65 units
07-11-9-963-132 (crusher)

So based on my production date, the engine oil screw didn't need to be replaced but they replaced the crusher.

Contrary to what's been mentioned, it doesn't seem that the diff plugs need to be replaced since according to etk/realoem, they're not made of Aluminum. Instead, it is a zinc silicate coating (ZnS3).

http://www.etk.cc/bmw/EN/search/sele...SA/33/33_1841/

I pressed my SA on replacing the diff plugs but he just mentioned that they're an allen key type of plug and aren't one-time use.

Dackelone can you confirm that the diff plugs aren't made of aluminum and thus wouldn't need to be replaced?

Try searching on RealOEM.com via your VIN. When I looked for a Jan build date... there were no cars built in Jan. ? When I selected Dec, 2014 it says you don't have to replace the screws(just the o-rings) but it shows a different part number for those o-rings: p/n 33117525064

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=33_1841

Bottom line is... I think you are ok with what your dealer did. I wouldn't worry too much over the o-rings.

Hi guys, I had my 2k service done a few days ago.
I noticed they've put "ULTRA 5w40 BMW LL01" oil in.

From searching around here, 0w30 and 5w30 seem to be the most common oil weights. Just wondering if the 5w40 is okay or if I should push for the 0w/5w30? I'm thinking they might spec a higher viscosity for the higher temperatures here in Australia?

Since you live in such a hot climate... 5w40 is probably just fine. Since that is what your dealer is using... that's probably what BMW specs for down under.

Just had mine done. I got 83-21-2-405-085 LL-01 oil. Is this the right oil?

From my dashcam's recording, I can see the oil came from a hose off the ceiling, not in bottles. I thought our M cars need special oil and I wonder if they can get special oil through the ceiling hose...

I go to the dealer today because the service notice on the car is coming on. I just bought the car with 6000 miles on it. I give he guy my key and he says they don't have record of the car having 1200 mile service done and I could have warranty issues. Wow. What a way to greet a new customer. Dumb ass could have asked if I had the work done and made a recommendation instead of jumping to say I'm screwed especially when I am not having any problems with the car. Makes me think they are dealing with too many warranty issues or something.

Good news... After my last post I went and found another BMW dealership in my area that took care of me. Got me good to go. Free 1200 mile service (at 6000 miles) and went over all my warranties on the car and did not act like assholes. MAG BMW of Dublin, Ohio is highly recommended.

As I have said many times before... EVERY dealer bills out oil fluids DIFFERENTLY! Some buy it in bottles from BMW AG. Some buy it in bulk from BMW. And some buy it in bulk LOCALLY. AND... they all use different(made up) part numbers. So unless your dealer bough the oil in bottles from BMW NA(AG)... you will have to ask your dealer WHAT OIL they used.

That said... I looked up your oil part number #83 22 2 365 988, it is not in BMW's system. So its not from them. Doesn't mean its the wrong oil. Its just means they used a bulk oil(drum/tank).

What dealer was this? I am taking delivery of my car soon and want to avoid bad apples. I'm in Columbus too BTW.

It should be around ~500 euros over here.
