F80 M3 666 Wheels (Black or Stock)
Hi All,
Picked up a new M3 Competition package a few months ago and been pondering the idea of powder coating my rims black but some part of me loves the details of these rims and I feel like black will remove that. Just looking for some opinions (my car below is the Alexander one and the black rim one is a friend's) View post on imgur.com |

Can always swap for the new 2018 "black" devils. It's more shadow black so you get a nice contrast but can still see all the little details. I agree that the powdercoated black wheels lose a lot in the transition, could be any old pair of wheels when all black.

Those are quite nice but probably a fairly expensive swap. Between black and stock which you would you run?

I had the same thoughts as you if your car is BSM like mines don't do it. Leave them as is the 666 wheels lose the details once you black them out even more against a darker color.

I don't really have much experience with powder coating but it looks like the new "black" 666s are basically gloss black except the face and the lip of the wheel which are like a gunmetal maybe a company could powdercoat in the same color scheme

I actually don't have the M3 anymore but planning on getting another one, but in the meantime I was going to get the M5 wheels powder coated shiny black which I believe would be polished first then coated

Personally, I believe these wheels look amazing in person in stock form but in my personal opinion are going to look better in the new black from the factory; I wouldn't powder coat these and the reason being is because if you decide for whatever reason to sell them, it would be hard and I believe even harder to get them back to looking factory. I am sure some guys who will have the new black ones could potentially not like the way they look and would be willing to swap for the stock ones. If I had the option to swap these with the new black ones I would, powder coat most likely not

It's a tough one I have an m3 BSM my self and I was debating to make mine black, but I think it might take away from the car.
