If this new M had a naturally aspirated ANYTHING under the hood, most reviewers and skeptics wouldn't find a single thing wrong with the car.

No, they'd still bitch about the EPS.

I have at the US MotoGP race. It was loud. Sounds nothing a 335i, a unique sound to its own. Granted it at a titanium exhaust, so not stock.
Keep in mind that exhaust had no cats or resonators at all. Straight pipes with high flow or straight flow muffler.
Kinda like most of the best sounding E46 and E9X ///M's.

Could you imagine this same chassis with the 4.4L from the GTS. Maybe a low volume hardcore model, with no radio, ac, etc.

What makes a world class engine? Is it peaky top end that makes you want to ring it's neck out every time it? The high rpm howl of a NA V8/I6? The direct, instant and linear throttle response?

All those things are amazing, but they are only one side of the coin. I loved my E90 M3, and my E46 M3. Both were amazing on track and as daily drivers. But I will be first to admit there were so many times I just wished for more mid-range for daily driving. When I test drove C63 I realized how different power delivery can also be fun. I've asked myself many times what an engine that is somewhere in between v8 AMG from C63 and S65 would be like? Would it be a better "do it all" engine? And I think BMW asked themselves the same question.

I am certain that new engine is exactly that. I think it will be a gem, just like all M engines always are.
Well said.
Agreed!

That blue is really growing on me...looks fantastic. The review was thoughtful and balanced. I need to see and drive this thing before I pass judgement on the sound of the engine.

Their job is to complain about something.

yea, like you said if they were limited 500 to even 5000 and have a 4.4L from GTS, it'd make sense.
but for pass production like F80 M3, it won't make sense, we learned our lesson from the 997 GT3 and Boxster Spyder. most people still get AC and radio with those models, honestly most of GT3 guys get navi on them too.

It all goes back lol...they raise up the price for a lightweight less option racing spec car, people go chase them and add even more money to put AC and nav systems back in lol

u r right
The whole beauty of M3 so far was individual throttle bodies in a mass produced car.
This fact itself could stand alone as the perfect characteristic and praise of M3 engines. E30 had ITB, E36 EURO had ITB, E46 had ITB, E90 had ITB. Why so significant you may ask? it has been all about this crispy engine response via using ITB on each cylinder.
It isn't just simple as "them going turbo", there's more to it.

Some people may say what's so significant about S65 engine, it's just 2 cylinders cut off from M5. Well, the E30 M3 was essentially an 2 cylinder cut off engine from the original M1

it will definitely be worse than E90 335i vs E90 M3. At least E90s had totally different characteristic engines lol

Dear lord, you would not want to see this new F80 M3 against an FBO N54 on E85... lol

The F80 M3 will be quick stock but it will not be that quick.

Well not to sound fanboyish but I am still hinging on the fact that an all out tuned N54 will remain the most tunable inline 6 ever built by BMW. Maxing out an inline 6 on stock turbos at 440 WHP is pretty damn impressive. Oh, and you only need 5900 RPM for that .

From all reviews so far there is virtually no way 2015 C63 AMG could beat the new M3.

M3 could only be beaten by its successor.
