Yes, you save 7% off the base MSRP of the car (You don't save on any of the options you select). There are no other charges for anything related to the car unless you need to rent winter tires or need insurance in Europe for longer than 2 weeks. The shipping back to the states is covered.
You do have to pay for your own trip (flight, hotel, fuel, etc.) but you can get some small discounts on that stuff for doing ED. The wait is about 6-8 weeks. The wait is one downside, but the ED experience is worth it. If you don't do ED, you'll have to wait almost that long anyway, since the car has to be shipped here either way.

True and not true. 7% is the discount to get you to European Retail/US Invoice essentially. There is actually another drop to ED invoice. If you combine ED with PCD you can shop nationwide and therefore send offers to dealers narionwide. That being said the forum sponsors are where to start. options can be negotiated down 9% on US and ED orders. I will second that the experience is second to none, but the wait can be more than most want to do. I dropped my car in Nice, FR on 5/3 and I am taking redelivery 10 weeks later at the PC. If you get it from a local dealer the wait is 6-8 weeks after drop. Hope this helps. If on the fence... DO IT!

If you want to go to Europe or in need of a vacation then ED is well worth. We loved the opportunity and will probably do it again. The wait now, however, is killer. It's one thing to wait for the car, but once you have it, and then it's gone and who knows who's in it or what's happening to it is tough. I'd rather just have the car show up and never know.

Do ED and use the difference that you would have paid BMW and have a fun trip in Munich/Europe instead. That's how I rationalize it, it is a "free trip" as I would've bought the car anyway. |

Thank you everyone for the input. I think i will do the ED!!! I am in dire need of a
Vacation. Its been over 5 years since my last trip! Only down side is that I have to wait for jan for my vacation days. I took all of them due to an injury. But at that point the question is 2016 or 2017...sigh. I hate waiting!

Well you could still technically do the ED and save at least $3000. ED knocks a little over $4500 off the price. You can fly over there from the east coast for as little as $750 and average about $1200. Then you can stay a day or 2 in Munich to take delivery. Fly back.
So $4500 - $1200 - $200 (2 nights somewhere around Munich) - $150 in food is about $3000....and that's not trying to be conservative either. Of course, if you've never been to Germany or Europe I really don't recommend it - but it is possible if you're just worried about saving money. Even w/ ED and 6 days travelling Germany, Austria, Italy, and Switzerland I plan on still coming in under US delivery price. |

I have been to amsterdam and france. Which was very nice. Im not concerned about being in Germany. My fiancè is half german. I read that it was almost 8k cheaper but i guess that guy was wrong. Like i said the only reason I cant now is NO vacation days left. I would have to wait till next year. I may just go with the 2016. Does anyone know how many miles were added to your vehicle when you received it in the us? Was it more than 10 miles? I know its about 10 when you do US.

The only down side is that you need to pay for the car in full before you leave so if this is replacing a primary car youll be out of a car for a good while as you for the car to come back to the US. |

Exactly. I was able to get approx $11k off US MSRP on my M4 by doing ED. Now if I only could have steered my wife away from Michelin rated restaurants, I would have made out like a bandit!

Well technically you could squeeze it in if you have weekends off. Fly out Friday evening, pick up the car Saturday, and fly back on Sunday. You won't get to do much, but it would save you the money. Also the wait can vary. When BMW was having production issues with cars due to constraints on parts, most ED orders were not effected because BMW gives those cars the highest priority. They need to make sure your car is ready once they give you a delivery date. Shouldn't be an issue going forward, but was a big advantage with many 2015 orders.

Without question, if you can take the time off, DO IT. I just got back a few weeks ago and it was an amazing experience. I posted my story here if interested -

Plan it around a holiday (like Memorial Day in May). Then you would only need to take a few days off that week. So if you leave the Saturday before the Memorial Day Monday, take the following Tuesday-Friday off, you will have an entire week in Europe to drive your car around. Having done it a few times, I can honestly say that ED (and maybe in conjunction with PCD next time) is the only way to buy a new BMW.

I'll just reiterate what others have said. It's incredibly worth it, but the wait IS grueling.
You certainly can do a long weekend, do an early Friday delivery, head down to Hoenschwangau/Neuschwanstein for the day (1.5 hour trip), drop your car off back in Munich on Saturday, head to Augustiner Keller for dinner/beers and leave Sunday. You'll keep your expenditures fairly low, still get a great delivery experience, see the beautiful sights of southern Bavaria, drive the autobahn for a little and still do a Munich biergarten. That's the basics, but you can do it and still save money. If you can't handle waits, then eh, it might be more torture for you than anything else. Only you can decide that.

If I included coach flights, for 2K under MSRP I got an all expense paid 2 week vacation to Europe for two. With up-front seating, the trip cost me about 2K over - What a great deal! I can totally see the ED argument as a cost saving measure, especially if at/above 80K it really adds up in savings. If you've been to Europe a few times, or travel there for business frequently, or even have no interest in exploring a different continent - you can save tons of money flying in for a night or two to pick up a higher MSRP car. The vacation/trip/welt experience are all just icing on the cake at that point. *edit* - Due to a booking error the -2K includes approximately 1,200 given up as a non-refundable deposit for hotel rooms we never stayed at in London. So taking that off the top the cost was ~(-$3200) with coach, or + under $1000 in Saga class. Also included is an approx. $400USD refund on train tickets as the train was >120 minutes delayed from Zurich to Amsterdam.

The first time I did it, it was for the savings as I flew on miles, (first class) stayed on points so the only expense was taxes, fees meals and Petrol - I love that word. I ended up about 3K positive in the savings.
This time will be a little more to enjoy what is hands down the best car buying experience on the planet. Flying in coach and out business (again using miles) This time around I think I will break even depending on my watch addiction. Its worth the experience if you dont save the money - saving is just the icing on the cake. (stole that lone from Rowans)
