I don't doubt any of this, but I'm not in need of a true fully functional dual use car (or however else you want to say it). There are other reason I switched and cost wasn't an issue.

There's a massive amount of tire under the GrandSport that the GTS just can't deal with IMO.

Pretty sure that Gran Sport had the Z07 package with Cup tires and upgraded brakes. I would love to see the Gran Sport time up against the Z06 with the Z07 package. VIR doesn't play to the M2s strengths. M2 seems to do best on short tight tracks.

And this is why none of these comparison tests mean shit to me. PSS, Pzero, Conti, Cup2, V720s; all in various widths too. Was the NSX running the optional R-comp tire package or the mediocre conti's, and so on and so on?!

I see. IMHO, that's nothing major. I guess Ford might do a recall if a lot more cases like that keep happening...

Btw, thanks for explaining. I really appreciate it.

Good reminder how much impact aero and r tires have

You don't seem to get it. Each of the manufacturers provides the car they want to provide, equipped the way they want it to be equipped - as long as it's stock, including factory specified tires. What's wrong with that?

If the NSX guys want to go with mediocre Contis, that's their business - though of course it would be stupid to do that, knowing what the test was going to be.

If you as a consumer want to switch the sneakers on your baby to something more (or less) aggressive, that's up to you. Meanwhile, the rest of us think that comparing cars, stock for stock, makes sense.

Car & Driver does what they can to ensure the supplied cars are stock - but the test is up to the manufacturers.

Definitely agree that all cars tested should be 100% stock.

Does anyone know how quick the McLaren 650s laps this circuit?

With it only trailing the 918, it is impressive. In a "race car for the street" that nobody could live with every day and mere mortals can't extract the performance out of, meh.

Falls further down knowing a C7 with a Z06 suspension and a few extra hp tossed in is less than 3 seconds slower.

Do you really think it will yield drastically different results than when the '15 M4 was ran? Awww, that's adorable.

Get outta Bruce. When did I say the cars weren't OE stock? I said there's optional packages for some of these vehicles which would benefit them at the track. Ex. Acura NSX.

Now that I've watched a few of the videos, I stand by my original comment. I've been to VIR before and some of those drivers are definitely leaving time on the table. I'd rather see one or two professional drivers take them out and then compare lap times. Randy P. is fimiliar with the variations of VIR, why not get him out there

I think Pobst has an exclusive with MT. C&D is Hearst and MT is TEN, so there's not much chance of them sharing hot shoes.

I agree with you though. They really need a pro out there. VIR is a large circuit with some very tricky turns. I watched a couple of the videos, and (for example) the 488 GTB driver got pretty crossed up at Spiral.

VIR Grand West is just a real MFer of a circuit. It's like a tiny Nordschleife. IMO, you can't expect anyone but a pro to put down fast, consistent lap times there
