F83 ZCP - best of both worlds...

Neither my fiancee nor I had any prior ownership of a convertible - nor even contemplated one. When the time came to replace her 2014 328i M-Sport, the thought came up - why not? So we did.

To be certain, there are some big differences when compared to driving the F82 (we have both), but the single most important thing to remember about the F83 is.... the top goes down. And we never tire of it! From driving through CA wine country, through the California coast to even the desert cities on a cool 90 degree at night - the F83 is amazing. We've crossed the Golden Gate at dusk, 50 degrees, clear skies, with the top down, the windows up, the seat heaters on, all the vents open and blowing warm air, steering wheel heater on and the air scarf vents blowing warm air on our necks... and you'd never know it was 50 degrees inches away. If any car every truly epitomized BMW's "Joy" slogan, it's the F83. It is TRULY a joy to own and drive.

Below are some photos we took after delivery...

Lovely ride, I want a convertible one day. Your fiancée looks like my wife whenever I'm taking photos of the car - none too pleased!

We never thought we'd get a convertible, but now that we have one, we love it! It is absolutely joyous! While it has the same power plant and most of the same underpinnings of its F80 and F82 siblings, it DOES drive differently. Put it into a decreasing radius at speed and the extra weight shows up REAL fast! But, to judge the car on basis of that consideration is missing the point. The top goes down!

Yeah - she wasn't terribly pleased - I showed her your post and she started laughing with a "yup!"

We had an E93 and you could tell the extra weight on the vert and the handling is a bit different than the coupe. Enjoy the vert nice ride.

Thanks! As someone who truly never thought I'd love driving a convertible, I can tell you - you must get at least one, once in your life. Its just TOO much fun! Mind you, I still want my lock-stiff chassis track car experience - and so I have a properly set-up F82 for that task - but for reaching the epitome of BMW's "Joy" experience - I don't think any car, ever, can rival the F83.

I imagine that the F83 would still be fun in Las Vegas, too...

With how windy and cold it is during winter and how hot it gets in the summer i dont think Vegas is the right place for a convertible

You do get 1 month a year where it would be nice to drive the convertible on the Las Vegas strip though

My first convertible car was a 2001 Mustang Convertible V6, followed by a 2013 Mustang Convertible V6, followed by a 2005 BMW 330Ci Convertible, and now a 2018 M4 Convertible, once you get a convertible, it's very hard to go back to a non convertible car, it's just not as fun anymore.

Yes convertibles may be a bit slower than the coupes but who cares, I don't race or track my car, just want a fast convertible that turns heads, and coming from these older convertible cars, this 2018 M4 is like a dream compared to the old ones I had.

You're there - I'm not - so I'll defer to your local expertise.

You are 100% right! As I said before - neither of us ever had a convertible before - and while we DO enjoy the dialed in feel of our F82 - there is NOTHING that comes even remotely close to the sheer JOY of driving the F83 with the top down. Its joyful, its exciting, its decadent, and so much more, all rolled into one. We love it!

How do you feel about the exhaust with the top down? I have the M Performance exhaust and man, it sounds so wild and loud with the top down I don't know what's more fun the fact that I have the top down or the fact that I can listen to the exhaust as if it was right behind my ear

We have the MPE on our F82, our F83 has the ZCP exhaust. We look to our F83 as the cushy, more luxurious ride - while certainly capable of providing some spirited action, ultimately, that's much more the domain of the F82. Having said that - I completely understand where you're coming from! While the S55 may have had some less than inspiring sounds when it first rolled out in 2015, the ZCP and MPE based iterations sound wonderful!
